Gingee Posted September 18, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 18, 2013 We just booked the Freedom out of Ft. Lauderdale. I also see that the Breeze also does the same itinerary except out of Miami. The difference is around $400. Any opinions either way on which ship is better? I tried reading the reviews and basically haven't gotten anywhere. This is for next summer. Thanks

lucy2mb Posted September 18, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 18, 2013 If you like a nice spa, then you would like the Breeze better and if you have children going, they would like the Thrill Theater and other activities on the Breeze. Personally, I liked the Freedom better because I did not like the new subtle colors on the Breeze. I like the bright lights on the Freedom and other Carnival ships. It was very hard to find family members eating on the Lido deck on the Breeze because of the layout. We did love our balcony room on the Breeze. The entertainment was much better on the Freedom than the Breeze. I had read the bad reviews and for the first time ever, did not go to a show at night. Our college age children went to some of the shows on the Breeze but left early because they did not like them. It is a nice, new ship and I would go on the Breeze again, if the price was right. The Breeze does have several things on it that were not on the Freedom. Our favorite ships are the Dream and the Freedom.

For waterslides, ropes course, Cloud 9 Spa, different burgers, pasta bar, alcohol, subdued decor, don't care about entertainment, 4D theater: Breeze wins. For more pools, chicken strips/nachos/other grill items, fish n chips, lively decor, better layout on lido deck all around, good entertainment, more live music: Freedom wins. For me, the Breeze's big let-down was the poor entertainment. Other than that, I might have liked it almost as much as the Dream or Valor (Freedom's sister ship). Breeze has plenty going for it, but it can feel like a bit too much for some people. It depends on your personality. I think that the kids & kids at heart will have more fun on Breeze as opposed to Freedom, but the nighttime stuff on Breeze can seem pretty lacking for the young adults & young adults at heart. okgirl Posted September 18, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 18, 2013 I prefer the Breeze over the Freedom because of the Red Frog Pub, the Taste Bar which also serves a hot breakfast and wraps and salads at lunch, Bonsai Sushi, the Thrill Theater, the exterior Lanai, the larger Casino, Guy's Burgers, Blue Iguana Cantina for breakfast taco's/burrito's. I like how there are internet fun hubs scattered all over the ship and that all the kids activities are set apart from the more public adult areas. put me on a ship Posted September 18, 2013 #8 Share Posted September 18, 2013 We just booked the Freedom out of Ft. Lauderdale. I tried reading the reviews and basically haven't gotten anywhere. This is for next summer. Thanks We've been on both....and Freedom has been one of our best cruises to date. However, if she is getting the 2.0 updates, along with the new shows, that would change my opinion! What made Freedom so special was the Ticket to Ride show, and the band that played in the atrium, I believe their name was Music Broadway, or something like that. Breeze has been my least favorite ship so far, mainly because of the lack of entertainment overall. We still had a great cruise, and we are going on her again. The decor on Breeze is much more our style, but we don't cruise for the decor! We did love the Red Frog Pub food, and Guy's Burgers.
Gingee Posted September 18, 2013 Author #9 Share Posted September 18, 2013 I did like it when there were nightly shows on the ships but I think that is changing or has changed. On the Glory this past summer we saw three shows and liked one of them (kind of). Keep the thoughts coming.

Ontario_Cruiser Posted September 18, 2013 #11 Share Posted September 18, 2013 The Freedom will be in a very long (6 week?) drydock this spring and what will be done to her has not yet been made public. I think that the 2.0 upgrades are a given but that generally only takes 2 weeks. The length of time indicates a more extensive project. Granted, some of this may be safety related to add backup systems after the Splendor and Triumph problems where they were without power. But there may be some other changes as well - and I am very curious what they will be.
