MCB12784 Posted September 24, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2013 My fiancé and I booked a cruise for our honeymoon in mid-November. We are staying in Moorea for 3 nights prior to the cruise, then leaving from Papeete, sailing to Huahine, Rangiroa, Raiatea, Bora Bora, back to Moorea, and back to Papeete. We love going out on sailboats/catamarans. We’d like to a day trips that will take us around sailing, stop occasionally for snorkel/swim, have some drinks (either we bring or provided) and perhaps a lunch (but doesn't have to be a big motu lunch - just a simple on board type lunch is great). We mostly like the sailing experience and enjoying the beauty/being out on the water. We are not looking for a larger group excursion with a set itinerary and lots of people. Does anyone happen to know of anything like this (on any of the stops of our trip) that is reputable and they would recommend? I've been trying to do research but not coming up with much. Any help you may provide would be extremely helpful! Thank you so much!
Seal Posted September 27, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 27, 2013 Sorry I don't know of any private sail boats at these islands--although I'm sure there must be--have been to them many times since 1979. Most of the time its the 8 person outriggers such as Bruno, Marc and Patrick--snorkeling/ lunch and a boat to get you there--not sailboats--much easier to find in the Caribbean. Enjoy your cruise Nancy:D
MCB12784 Posted October 2, 2013 Author #3 Share Posted October 2, 2013 Thank you for your reply! Perhaps we will find something when we get there and/or try the outrigger. Thank you!
Mercruiser Posted October 2, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 2, 2013 Something to remember about sailboats is that they have a keel that extends down into the water. This would limit their use inside the shallow fringing reefs around these islands. That might explain why the canoe-like outrigger boats at better suited to this area. M.VICTOR Posted December 18, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 18, 2013 Apart from the outriggers canoe, there are sailing boats on the lagoons in French Polynesia !! To be able to sail in shallow waters, some of them are equiped with retrievable quilt and their draft is only 4 or 5 ft. If you want to experience a day sail in the society islands, Huahine port of call, you can contact Claude from Tahiti Sailing Charter. You will find his website easily. He organizes sailing cruises on the lagoon of Huahine island with a special timing for the cruisers on cruising ships. Hope this info will be usefull for everybody. Tikiintahiti Posted December 18, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 18, 2013 Most sailing inside the lagoons are on Cats. Raiatea is the capital of the sailing vendors. Cost for a 6 hour private sailing in most areas of the Society Islands including lunch will cost $700+ USD
