Is Funship Freddy Retiring?

I seen a comment from JH today to a post.

 

He is on a long long vacation…. and soon he will go to the retirement home for mascots. More news on that soon. Cheers.

 

For me I won't miss that thing.

Didn't see him on my last 2 cruise's but instead saw a giant towel animal (elephant) i took pictures with him!

Awww. My son liked him. We have a couple of pictures with him, the stuffed animal, and a book and a tshirt they gave out in the kids club.

I've never seen that one. I saw a few "towel animals" during a Halloween cruise though.

Freddie's facial expression always DID strike me as being creepy...and I see I'm not alone. :eek:

I just googled the giant towel elephant and he is adorable! I won't miss Freddie either, esp. if the elephant takes his place!

I guess I'm in the minority here. I like Freddy a lot better than the huge towel animal. That just seems gross, imagine keeping that thing clean. It would have to be laundered in bleach every couple of hours.

Personally, I think that the towel animal looks like a member of an organization whose members wear white robes and promote the supremacy of one race over the others.

 

Fun Ship Freddy creeps me out too, but he's an icon of Carnival cruising. And as creepy as he is, kids seem to love him (I know mine do. My son was even asking for Fun Ship Freddy on our last Holland America cruise).

Give me Gunship Freddy any day. To me the towel elephant looks like a mouse and elephant mated and the result is this strange new mascot.

 

When you see the whaletail from a distance you know instantly you're on vacation. While the towel animals are cute the first few cruises, after that they're just something we throw on the sofa.

I am glad they are getting rid of Freddie - I always thought he was a little creepy. My daughter wouldn't take a photo with him. I love the new towel animal mascot. I think they need to add something to it with the logo though.

I'm okay with changing the mascot, his tail is worn out. Haven't seen Freddy the past few cruises which is okay with me, he was creepy.

I heard that he was sent to the "chop shop" and will reemerge as hundreds of sock puppets the photographers and DOD hawkers will wear to entice us to spend more. :rolleyes:

I would expect Freddy to be replaced by a towel animal mascot.
