The Wizards of Waz Posted October 16, 2013 #1 Share Posted October 16, 2013 I am looking for recommendations for a restaurant that the locals eat at. I'm not concerned if it has views or not. Most of the places I have enjoyed are small family run restaurants that are located in the middle of town. The best places have had few, if any, tourists. travelqueen555 Posted October 24, 2013 #2 Share Posted October 24, 2013 A fun spot with lots of history is "Charlies Bar". There is a Aruba based novel "An Island Away" by Daniel Putkowski in which the main area of the story is centered around Charlie's Bar. I have been there while staying on the Island. Was a great lunch spot with lots of mementos hanging on the wall. It is not "close" to the port, but would be an easy cab ride - not sure what the fare would be. They do serve local food, that we really enjoyed. There is a website telling more information.

Arubalisa Posted October 25, 2013 #4 Share Posted October 25, 2013 Peanuts is right in downtown Oranjestad. A new place I just heard about is Baby Back Grill. Don Jacinto for Columbian. If you have a car there is Zeerover in Savaneta. Otherwise there are tons of takeaways all over the island.
SemperFi_Cruiser Posted November 11, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 11, 2013 Check out Iguana Joe's Caribbean Bar & Grill Royal Plaza Mall | L.G. Smith Blvd, Oranjestad, Aruba It's one of many places to eat in the busy downtown area, but it is an open design on the second floor - great views of the cityscape and you can even see your ship from there - or at least a part of it. Food was great and only a short walk back to the pier.

OCruisers Posted December 6, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 6, 2013 Check out Iguana Joe's Caribbean Bar & Grill Royal Plaza Mall | L.G. Smith Blvd, Oranjestad, Aruba ============================================ We like to go to Iguana Joe's because it's very convenient. Sitting at a table by the rail overlooking what's happening below and chatting with others is fun for us. :D LuLu ~~~~
disneydave Posted December 7, 2013 #8 Share Posted December 7, 2013 Not sure if it open for lunch but Driftwood is good and you can eat whatever is the days fresh catch. Iguana Joes is also good, in the middle of the tourist shopping area. The Coconut Mahi Mahi is awesome. Also the restaurant at the end of the island down by the lighthouse is very good and has great views of the island. But is probably a 20 min ride from the cruise port.
