Recent Experience with Taxi Situation in La Romana

We will be in La Romana on the Carnival Breeze in December. We were inclined to book an independent excursion through Seavis or Pro Excursions -- both of which I've seen wonderful reviews about -- but just recently I'm starting to see these grumblings in posts about recent trouble with the port allowing taxis to provide service for independent operators such as Seavis. Does anyone have recent experience getting from the port to the launch points for Seavis or Pro Excursions tours using taxis? We will be traveling with two kids (9 and 6), so I am reluctant to use an independent operator if there could be trouble. On the other hand, the Carnival excursions that are available that we could do with the kids look pretty unappealing (for example, overpriced "beach break"), so I'm feeling a little stuck about what to do at this port. We're not going to risk any adventurous exploring on our own with our kids in tow.

On Trip Advisor there are some recent (Sept/Oct 2013) reviews from cruise ship passengers about their Seavis experience and no one mentions any taxi problems :-) I believe those issues have been resolved.

there were plenty of them outside the gate waiting on business last week, no problem getting one.

Looked like a hot mess so we walked out the gate. They tried to get us to go back in line but we kept walking and got a taxi They do want the mini van full before going. We dropped off 2 couples at sevis before heading to our beach.

Thanks, everyone. We are thinking we will try it and see how it goes. It looks like if we have taxi trouble and give up, we aren't out any money since you don't pay Pro Excursions until you get there.
