We are going on the Liberty in January and have $$$ to dive in two of these three places. We have beeen diving in Cayman and Cozumel before and loved both. Which would you dive in? How is the diving in Freeport?

Thanks,

Lisa

My first choice would be Cozumel. Then I would only have to choose between Freeport and GCM. I'd probably pick Freeport just because I haven't dived there. I would be very interested in doing a shark dive there. The Bahamas are known for their shark dives.

If you are short on money, GCM would be the best choice for an inexpensive shore dive. My first choice there would be the turtle farm site right by http://www.divetech.com I have my own gear so I would only need to rent tanks and weights. I don't know if divetech allows solo diving, so if you are traveling with you buddy, you'll be good to go. Otherwise you would have to go on a guided shore dive which would increase the expense or find a buddy or group that would let you dive with them. Personally, I have no problem solo diving, but I am not advocating that anyone else dive solo.

If you don't want to pay for a taxi to get to the turtle farm site, you could just walk a couple of blocks to the right of the tender docks and do a dive at Eden Rock. There are 2 dive shops, http://www.edenrockdive.com/ and http://abanksdivers.com.ky , that are right there to rent tanks and weights. You will need a buddy to dive there, so either you have one with you or you can wait there until you can find someone to dive with. It shouldn't be a very long wait. If there are a lot of ships in port and Eden Rock seems too crowded with snorkelers, you could walk a couple of blocks further to Sunset House and do their shore dive. http://www.sunsethouse.com/shore_diving.php It should be less crowded there.
