Ncl spirit Barcelona and canaries

Hi not cruised with ncl before so if anyone could help with a few queries?

We start from Barcelona, is it possible to leave your luggage at the cruise terminal and go and have a wander around the city before boarding? Could you book on and then get off the ship?

I have read conflicting accounts of what is acceptable in the main dining room at night, are jeans ok or do you need to wear trousers and shirt(for the men) and do people dress up more for the speciality restaurants?

Many thanks

Hi there, you will love your cruise on the Spirit we cruised on her this year and are doing so again next year.

You cannot leave your luggage at the terminal but you could it you wish drop it off at City Lockers Barcelona (google it) That said you will get onboard from around 11am, you can then leave the ship and do your own thing until Roll Call, probably around 4/5pm.

Jeans (not torn) plus a shirt are acceptable in the Main and Speciality restaurants, some probably make more of an effort than others but dress is certainly varied:)

Have a great cruise.

Hi

You are in for a treat. Spirit is a fabulous ship, great facilities, friendly crew, good food and overall it feels a happy ship.

Barcelona is an amazing city and you could easily spend several days exploring it. As previously mentioned you can check in and board the ship around midday and then leave the ship to spend a few hours in the city. You wouldn't have long though as the compulsory muster drill takes place late afternoon, on our cruise it was 4pm. Also it is a long walk from where the ship is berthed to the Columbus statue at the bottom of the Ramblas, though taxis are available and a regular bus service from the cruise terminal.

We found that many passengers made some effort to dress for dinner even if that was a smarter form of relaxed and casual.

Le Bistro the French speciality restaurant has an informal formality and many people were dressed smartly though ties were rare. The other speciality restaurants were informal.

Hope this helps.

John

Barcelona is very easy to get around. The Metro is easy to use and fast. With maybe three hours you could get to Sagrada Familia to view the outside - lines usually far too long for inside which is a shame to miss :(. Then to Plaza Catalunya at the top of the Ramblas and walk down to the port for a really nice feel for the city's pace (beware pick pockets though ). Depending on day of the week the Plaza often has a lot of protestor and political activity on Sundays. Can be sort of interesting even without Spanish language knowledge.
