I brought a beautiful gold bracelet for SO in St. Thomas on my first cruise. He always gets compliments because of the unusual link pattern in this chain. I kick myself for not getting the matching necklace. I went back a year later, he decided to get the necklace. Wouldn't you know that we could not find it anywhere! I have gone there 3 times, and can not find it. :( If I had only followed my gut and gotten it when I was there the first time.

Wish I hadn't bought T-shirts from each island the first 2 times we cruised -I already had more T-shirts that I can possibly wear in the summer in Iowa. And I wish I would have bought some Caymite (not sure of the spelling) in the Caymans and also more Larimar in the Virgin Islands. We also enjoyed Sheridans Liquor which we can't get here. They have sold it on the ship as well as in some of the ports. Wish I would have brought back a few bottles of that -maybe this coming January I will.

We were on the Glory on one of her first sailings. I always check out the jewelery they have on board. I've found that many of their items are below what you will pay in port.

I found an enhancer for my omega, with australian opals and a large tanzanite. It was priced at $600. Believe me that was a bargain price!!! I decided that I would buy it if I won in the Casino. So, when I had over $300, the very next day, I went to the store to buy it, and it was gone (oh,my). I was really sad, since it was the only one they had.

So, now when I see something that I really want, I use what we here in the "Big D" call the Moscow method. During the Cold War they used to cue up for what was being sold, they never knew what it was, but they knew they'd never get it again. I'll never let a steal get away again.

Hi all,

Not really a regret, more of a relief.

Saw John Hardy necklace and earings in Cozumel, my friends were shopping like crazy for gems...I was being frugal and decided not to get the earings and necklace. They gave me crap for being a penny pincher and worrying if DH would ever let me go on a cruise with gal pals again if I came back with jewelry.

Came back to DFW, found earings and necklace at my local jewlers for significantly less money than in Cozumel. (SALE) I was so proud of myself for not buying the ones in Cozumel and not spending too much money for them that I bought them on the spot! So much for being frugal:o

I do get compliments every time I wear it, and I must admit they look good on me:p HEE HEE.

DH still lets me cruise too! I just shop before and after!;)

i live in ohio....i do my liquor shopping when i go to canada on csino trips...in fact, that is one of the highlights of the casino trips...cheaper there and more selection! when i am returning from a cruise, i do not want to be lugging liquor, not when you are so limited with what you can fly with!

We live on the Texas Gulf Coast close to the Mexican border and make periodic shopping trips there. Cozumel and Cancun are so-o-o-o much more expensive. A quart of Mexican Vanilla is $2 while it was at least that much for a pint in Cozumel. There is so much variation in the value of gemstones that it's hard for an amature to judge. I noticed two different styles of lovely tanzanite and diamond rings set in 14K gold at WalMart for $236. Didn't see anything that inexpensive on my last Caribbean cruise.

My only "regret" and even at that it isn't a huge regret, I bought a chess set in Cozumel on my last cruise, got the vendor down to about $40 for the set. The pieces were very nice, carved in stone, and I was told the board was marble. Well I look in the box and it looks like marble and all so I am happy and pay the man. Get back on the ship that night, take it out of the box and realize it might have a LAYER of marble, over top of the porcelin (sp) that the board is REALLY made of. I was a little upset at this, but hey...I was still happy getting the carved stone pieces.

My regrets fall into the 'wish I woulda' category. I think I've learned that lesson though. Now, if I see a piece of jewelry I want, I get it. And, I keep on getting until I reach my limit...then I stop looking. I don't worry about whether or not it is a "good deal"...for me, it is much more important to associate the jewelry with the memories of the trip. That's what makes each piece priceless when I wear it!

I wish I would have bought more art. There were a couple of pieces that I saw 2 cruises ago that I really liked, but had bought a lot already. Thought I would pick them up on the last cruise... WRONG... it was double, some pieces triple. I will not let anymore get away. Also, not buying enough liquor. I am from TN, and you can't buy it at Walmart etc. We have to go to Liquor stores and the prices are at least double...

On our honeymoon cruise in '94, DH found a marble chess set that he really wanted. We haggled to get a great deal on it and were very pleased with our purchase. However, when we were leaving, we realized the error of our ways. The set weighed about 20 lbs and trying to carry that in our already full luggage (all carry on) in a fast dash in the airport was miserable. We vowed to ship anything over a lb from then on.

One purchase that I was very happy with, was a blue topaz (my birthstone) on our next to last cruise. I didn't know at the time, but I was two weeks pregnant. When I had our DD that January, DH presented me with the topaz in a beautiful gold and silver setting as soon as I got back to the room! I wear it always!
