bethohio3 Posted November 10, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 10, 2013 We're trying to make sure we can visit a distillery and do a tutored tasting while on our cruise. (Glasgow, Edinburgh, Kirkwall, Inverness) Can anyone let me know the best form of transportation to the Auchentoshan Distillery from Greenock/Glasgow? I had hoped to go to Glengoyne, but public transportation is problematic. The distillery in Kirkwall isn't taking any private tours the day the ship is in port. I'd appreciate any suggestions or ideas about how to make this work.
msg_girl Posted November 11, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 11, 2013 Whyte and McKay are actually in Invergordon but I don't think they offer tours. Dalmore do offer tours and are only a few miles from Invergordon, Glenmorangie are also close. We visited Highland Park in Kirkwall on a fairly busy day - they didn't have private tours ie just your group but we joined one of their scheduled tours towards the end of the day and there were only 7 of us and they took us back to the ship. You must be unfortunate to be on a very busy day. I did ring and Pre-book. There are also tour companies that organise distillery tours out of Invergordon and take you to a number of places. We hired a car - I don't drink so acted as chauffeur! G.
msg_girl Posted November 11, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 11, 2013 You can take the train from Greenock to Dalmuir takes about 90 minutes and change in Glasgow then about 30 minutes walk or cheap taxi trip - distillery might even pick you up from the station - try emailing. Day return train is about £10. G.
