Technically, you are correct; however, what if the cruise line changes the itinerary so that you go somewhere else? You could be stuck.

 

I'd recommend that you get your passport.

I agree with nhrich. I too would get a passport just in case they switch ports on you. We just got ours for our August cruise to the Bahamas. Better safe than sorry.
