cocheese Posted November 19, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 19, 2013 I have sailed NCL numerous times, but this will be our first trip on CCL. I will be traveling with my 18 yr old DD on the Victory in January. On NCL a parent could fill out a form for 18-20 yr olds to be able to drink beer and wine. Is this not policy on CCL? It's not that big of a deal, but thought that it would be a good memory to buy my little girl her first drink. I know I could probably give her one anyway, but I am all for following the rules, and that would not be a very good example to teach her for those who might suggest it. ready2cruzagain Posted November 19, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 19, 2013 (edited) Carnival does not have any waiver allowing guest under 21 year old to drink alcohol anywhere on their ships. Here is a link from Mary on Funville, a Carnival employee, stating such. http://www.carnival.com/Funville/forums/t/216590.aspx Edited November 19, 2013 by ready2cruzagain
cocheese Posted November 19, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted November 19, 2013 Thanks for the quick replies. I guess I can always buy her one in Cozumel. At least I will be able to show her how to loose money in the casino. :p

Dare2Believe Posted November 19, 2013 #7 Share Posted November 19, 2013 As stated above, there is no form on Carnival. I think they're cutting out a lot of business in the 18-20 market, but hey, I can see their reasons. You guys can have a toast when you're in the islands, however!

arush5268d Posted November 20, 2013 #12 Share Posted November 20, 2013 I cruised on the Celebration 3 weeks before my 21st birthday. Three. Weeks. You bet I smuggled in large amounts of booze and got people to buy a drink for me on their S&S card.

arush5268d Posted November 20, 2013 #15 Share Posted November 20, 2013 You should be so proud...eyes rolling Is it some sort of mortal sin in your eyes for someone under the age of 21 to have alcohol? Most of the world does not have a drinking age of 21.
Mysticks1 Posted November 20, 2013 #16 Share Posted November 20, 2013 I have the same sort of issue on our upcoming cruise. My daughter and her friend are going and both will be 20 at that time. She was all excited because she knew that the waiver was available on another cruise line. I had to bust her bubble and tell her that Carnival didn't do that. She is excited about being able to buy her first alcoholic drink (herself). She is off at college so I am not naïve enough to think she hasn't been drinking already but she and her friend will be closely monitored when onshore in the Bahamas. mlrm Posted November 20, 2013 #17 Share Posted November 20, 2013 You should be so proud...eyes rolling We had our 18 yr. old daughter with us last July. She is a sophomore in college, so I'm sure she doesn't know what alcohol tastes like. (heavy sarcasm intended) So when we got to the Bahamas I took her to Senor Frogs and bought her a Bahama Mamma. (not sure if it was her first) ;) She had a great time with Dad, and yes I was "so proud" and my eyes didn't roll.

When my DS turned 21 a few years ago we went out for a couple beers at the little club I belong too. kind of a rite of passage. One thing I am not is stupid or naive when it comes to my kids , so I knew it was only his "first" beer in the legal sense. Smart ass that he is (can't really complain , because the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree *LOL*) He said " MMMM this is really good , whats is it called again? Beer ??? How do you spell that , I want to write it down so I can remember it in case I ever want to order it again. *LOL*

Colorado Kat Posted November 20, 2013 #20 Share Posted November 20, 2013 My daughter is 22 now, and can't drink for medical reasons. I do get told all the interesting stories however. She is always turning down offers of others to buy her drinks. And has been since age 15. (She looks older than she is.) It is not difficult to obtain alcoholic drinks on the ships. Very easy, especially for a female, to get served a drink. But underage cannot purchase on their own since the S&S card indicates they are under age. cindivan Posted November 26, 2013 #25 Share Posted November 26, 2013 Do you happen to know the policy for European cruises? We were on the RC navigator in Europe and they allowed our kids to drink wine at dinner. (Ages 17 and 15). We didn't try to buy them drinks elsewhere but it sure wasn't a problem at dinner.
