I'm sailing on the Millennium from Seward to Vancouver in September 2014.

Would it be advantageous (I'm sure it would be) to stay for 3 or 4 days to see some of the sights in Anchorage or surrounding area before traveling to Seward? Any suggestions on tours or where to stay in Anchorage since this will be our first trip to Alaska.

Thanks Guy

Hello Troopman:

There is a wealth of information and opinions about Alaska in the Alaska Cruise Critic forum (located under "Ports of Call").

I think it is advantageous to fly up a few days before. If wildlefe viewing is a priority with four days one could easily spend two days in Denali (think Mt. McKinley) National Park. Or if Denali isn't appealing you could easily drive to Homer before heading down to Seward. Seward is a small community but there is much to do there; Exit Glacier, Kenai Fjords National Park and the SeaLife Center are all popular with visitors and locals alike.

Hope you enjoy your visit to our state. We think that we live in a very special place.
