DrSch Posted December 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 11, 2013 So I need some advice... I Have two options. Get off the Plane and spend a night at the Intercontinental, and then do the taxi to the ferry to the taxi to the Hilton Moorea for 1 night, followed by the taxi to the ferry to the ship the next morning carrying all our bags for both journeys, or spend 2 nights at the Intercontinental in one of the over water motus there. Anyone have some experience at the Intercontinental and the Hilton Moorea, and is it worth the hassle to get over to Moorea for the night, or should we just relax at the Intercontinental. Rare Fletcher Posted December 11, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 11, 2013 (edited) Definitely not worth the hassle. Just stay 2 nights in Tahiti. Personally I don't like the IC at all - it's a big, busy American-style resort which started life as a Travelodge and has been enlarged and modernised many times. Admittedly it's not vast or an ugly high-rise but to me the vibe is definitely Hawaiian playground and that's not right for Tahiti. It doesn't have a beach, the view of Moorea is largely obscured by OWBs and the last time I visited a fruit juice cost me ten bucks. However, most people here seem to like it. Personally I much prefer locally owned pensions while the other major resort, the Radisson, does sit on a fabulous beach and enjoys a great view of Moorea. RZ3 Posted December 11, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 11, 2013 It's more of a personal choice than anything. I personally would not want to switch between hotels. However, for my trip, we arrive bright and early at 5am on Friday so my wife and I are opting to head over to Moorea where we will stay in an OWB for the experience there. We will come back to Papeete on Saturday afternoon after enjoying late checkout at the IC Moorea. That's a lot of travel, but we'll get it out of the way up front. Some may say it's not worth it, but for us, we don't know when we'd get back so we want to experience a nice OWB. On the way back, we are staying overnight at the IHC Tahiti in a cheaper room before flying out bright and early Sunday morning. I'm IHG Platinum so we're staying there versus other hotels. DrSch Posted December 11, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted December 11, 2013 I have an owb reserved at IC Tahiti. We get in at 9pm Sun night and staying there Sun night. Mon is the day in question that we could do Moorea but the more I read and think about it half the day would be lost in travel so now just planning to stay in Papeete

FlightMedic555 Posted December 12, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 12, 2013 Changing hotels is a hassle but for many this is a one time trip in their lifetime. I would go through the hassle and go to Moorea. I would spend the 85 Euros to stay the one night at Faire Suisse, a small and very plain property. Inexpensive and they will pick you up at the airport and drop you the next morning at the ferry at no charge. The ferry is only 30 minutes and you can easily be at your hotel on Moorea well before noon. Even if you room is not ready you can enjoy the resort. If you are sailing on the Paul Gauguin you can't board until 3:00pm at the earliest. Take a later ferry back which drops you about 1 block, at most, from the PG dock. It is an easy walk, even with luggage. You can check in on the ship and then either explore the ship or get off and check out the market which is a few blocks away. Tikiintahiti Posted December 16, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 16, 2013 I think you need to decide if this is a one and only vacation to FP and if your ship goes to Moorea. If it's a one-time trip and your ship does not go to Moorea then I'd do it otherwise I would stay at the IC Tahiti and relax .........
Seal Posted December 16, 2013 #8 Share Posted December 16, 2013 I would stay at the IC--have stayed there many times--OWB's are good---but........there is nothing wrong with the Panorama rooms on 3rd floor facing ocean--ENJOY!!!!!!! Nancy
betonic Posted December 26, 2013 #9 Share Posted December 26, 2013 We just stayed at the IC Tahiti and did not enjoy it very much. We are IC Ambassador members and got upgraded to a Panaramic Room. We felt that the service and quality of the resort was well bellow the IC standards. As much as travelling on the ferry to Moorea may be a hassle my husband and I agreed that we would avoid the IC Tahiti on future trips.
