twinsaj Posted December 16, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 16, 2013 I am looking for a reasonable but nice place to stay before our cruise in March. Driving to the port and going through Houston. Am I better off staying in Galveston or Texas City??? Any suggestions for nice, clean places that you have stayed in would be appreciated!! Am I better off staying in Galveston or Texas City??? Any suggestions for nice, clean places that you have stayed in would be appreciated!! Definitely, Galveston. There are far more restaurants and activities there. The following web site tells you every thing you ever wanted to know about Galveston, including hotel and restaurant listings. http://www.galveston.com/default.asp The Tremont and Harbor House are walking distance from the cruise docks. Both access the "Historic Downtown District". http://www.galveston.com/shopping/

ssb Posted December 17, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) Main areas to stay On the Gulf (Seawall-Gulf of Mexico)(many motels and hotels) 32 miles of beach On the Bay (Moody Gardens Hotel) (Inn at Waterpark) Downtown Old Town Historic Strand District by Port – Only (Harbor House and Tremont) On highway coming onto Island(few) ---------------------- see INTERNET maps for visual of Greater Houston Metro and to get bearings of island galveston.com ....interact and discover.... maps ---------------------------- In my opinion San Luis, Hilton, Moody Gardens, Tremont, Galvez and Harbor House are the better hotels. Many other nice ones obviously Try these for more reasonable pricing? Country Inn Gaidos Commodore Holiday Inn Resort Inn at Waterpark La Quinta's 2 Baymont Super 8 Quality Comfort Inn Hampton Best Western Choice Marriott Beachfront and others Try putting in bid on bid sites If it is Spring Break pricing may be higher Edited December 17, 2013 by ssb
tgunn1978 Posted December 17, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 17, 2013 The Hilton on Seawall is always our first choice. They let you leave your vehicle if you stay one night pre or post cruise, and they offer a free shuttle that drops you and your bags off at the pier. When you return, they are there to pick you up and return you to your vehicle. We love them!

Chmie Posted December 18, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 18, 2013 If by "nice" you mean not a budget place we recommend the Galvez. Great hotel next to the beach which has free parking during your cruise and a shuttle to the terminal. :)
twinsaj Posted December 18, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted December 18, 2013 I looked at all the places in Galveston and the prices were very high since it's Spring Break. We also need two rooms. We aren't getting there till late at night and pre paid for parking already. Thinking it may be smarter to just stay on Texas City. Do any of you know anything about places there?? Is it an easy drive to Galveston? It is supposed to be about 15 miles away. Will I be making a mistake?
mongo59r Posted December 18, 2013 #9 Share Posted December 18, 2013 I would pass on Texas City if it were me. I would look more in the Clear Lake area. YMMV
twinsaj Posted December 18, 2013 Author #10 Share Posted December 18, 2013 Ok. I will look in Clear Lake. I appreciate the help
Aggiebuttercup Posted December 18, 2013 #11 Share Posted December 18, 2013 Clear Lake and Texas City are both on the main freeway (I-45) into Galveston. There is nothing wrong with Texas City, there's just nothing really there either beyond a few hotels and some big-box shopping. If all you want is a place to rest late at night, Texas City will be fine (and the traffic will be less than trying to stay in Clear Lake/Webster). twinsaj Posted December 18, 2013 Author #12 Share Posted December 18, 2013 Yes all I am looking for is a place to sleep, get up and head to the port. Just want it to be clean in an ok neighborhood. I really don't want to worry about traffic. That's why I'm not staying in Houston.

twinsaj Posted December 18, 2013 Author #14 Share Posted December 18, 2013 No I didn't. Have you stayed there?? Was nervous since it wasn't one of the big chains.
mistshar Posted December 18, 2013 #15 Share Posted December 18, 2013 No I didn't. Have you stayed there?? Was nervous since it wasn't one of the big chains. Check tripadvisor if you want to see the ratings for any of the hotels, if you haven't already. I use them all the time to be safe about where we stay when we are not familiar with the area. Hope you have a wonderful cruise!
twinsaj Posted December 18, 2013 Author #16 Share Posted December 18, 2013 Thanks. I'll check trip advisor for all of the options. Good idea!!
ssb Posted December 19, 2013 #17 Share Posted December 19, 2013 (edited) No I didn't. Have you stayed there?? Was nervous since it wasn't one of the big chains. No but we live in Galveston The reviews are mixed on cruise critic It's not on beach and attainable and should be reasonable during spring break And next to moody gardens and hotel with all amenities and Schlitterbahn Waterpark next door also Call about transfers and parking at Inn Also call moody gardens next door about transfers and parking Edited December 19, 2013 by ssb
twinsaj Posted December 19, 2013 Author #18 Share Posted December 19, 2013 Reviews on trip advisor weren't good so I don't think we would be happy but thank you for the suggestion. I think because of price we will stay in Texas City at the Hampton Inn. Good reviews and only fifteen minutes away from the pier. Thanks everyone for responding! cbrewer Posted December 29, 2013 #19 Share Posted December 29, 2013 We have stayed in Texas City twice. Easy drive to Galveston and a nice Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express.
