johnsak123 Posted December 27, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 27, 2013 Leaving on the Gem 1/1 We are all meeting at the pier at 12:30 Is that a decent time to check in and head to Cagney's or should we met earlier Think we all met up at 12:30 last year but don't remember. It seemed like so long ago. Any Thoughts? Cheers!!

garycarla Posted December 27, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 27, 2013 Assuming you are in a Suite and get Cagneys for lunch. Checking in from late morning to early afternoon and heading their for lunch is great. Give them time to get you cabin ready while you live the good life. LaPrincesa Posted December 27, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 27, 2013 I always get there around 9:15, but I am not in The Haven. ~ La Princesa
Cubechick Posted December 27, 2013 #6 Share Posted December 27, 2013 We arrive no later than 11:00. Barring issues with the ship (late arrival) we're on board before noon.
Brighton Line Posted December 27, 2013 #7 Share Posted December 27, 2013 The Gem normally goes under the Verrazano at 6am and is ready to dock at the pier at 7am. Last off is around 10:30am and this is what happened on our crusie on December 13th (Yes Friday the 13th) as someone in our roll call stayed on board until the last minute allowed. Two or three sailings before that the Gem did not arrive until 10am as she had to go further out in the Atlantic (east) to go around a storm Back to our sailing we did not board until 1:30p/2p as they were doing an extensive cleaning to the ship. Normally boarding is starting 11:30a to 12:30a even though NCL says the ship does not arrive until 10am. Another roll call member was very upset as NCL said 10am arrival his walk off and Limo was set for 11am, he would have to wait 3 hours. He made enough noise that they gave him a free call to the limo company to change the time of pickup. It is pretty much the same but can varry even depending on how many staff they have on shore from longshoremen to Customs and immigration. Your experience may vary, FWIW
johnnypiano Posted December 27, 2013 #8 Share Posted December 27, 2013 In September, my wife and I arrived at 1:30pm for the Breakaway and didn't wait in any lines. We were car to ship in under 15 minutes! Further, our room was ready when we boarded, so none of that awkward carrying around the carry-ons while waiting for the room to be ready. Last year, on the Gem, we arrived around 11:00am, and it was over an hour between waiting in line at security, waiting in line at check-in, and then waiting for our number to be called. And then, when we got on the ship, we had to carry around our carry-on luggage while we tried to get lunch and wait for our room to be ready. I definitely recommend a later arrival to avoid the early rush!
Becky Posted December 28, 2013 #9 Share Posted December 28, 2013 My group of 5 of us will also be on the Gem 1/1 and I was wondering the same question. We are planning on being there around 11:00-11:30 and we do not have a suite. Where is lunch available?
