DDMau Posted December 29, 2013 #4 Share Posted December 29, 2013 Years ago while in San Pedro on a pre cruise day we walk around to the Navy ship they had there then, it wasn't the Iowa. It was a good walk but doable.
barnacle_boy Posted December 30, 2013 #5 Share Posted December 30, 2013 The ship you saw several years ago was probably the Victory class SS Lane Victory. She used to be docked right near the Vincent Thomas Bridge, but now she is docked near the harbor entrance. Iowa is docked where the cruise terminals are, so visiting her should be relatively easy. She's open to the public daily from 10am-5pm, and I've heard good things about the work that they are doing over there. In my opinion, $18 is a bargain to tour her historic decks. When I'm in San Pedro next weekend, I'll try to go aboard for a few hours before boarding Star.
