Phone calls to US from caribbean

If memory serves me correct 5 years ago I called from San Juan to the US without any additional calling plan or charges. Is this correct? Are there any Caribbean ports that this can be done without extra charges? I have an iPhone.

Check with your carrier. I just checked Verizon and calls while in San Juan are 69 cents a minute. Domestic data charges apply.

I can tell you At&t and Sprint consider San Juan part of the home calling plan so there is no extra charge. The same holds true for St. Thomas and all of the U.S. Virgin Islands. It is just like being home :)
