What to do in Bermuda???

Recommended Posts

Late 30's couple visiting Bermuda in Mid August with no kids. Ship is docked at Kings Warf (Dockyards) for two days.

Not interested in golf. Not crazy about shopping. We enjoy the beachs but wouldn't consider ourselves beach worshipers (especially if there aren't showers at the beach).

We're not affraid to use the scooters (not really looking to debate this on this thread). We'll do all of our drinking of spirits on Front Street as long as we can take the ferry back to Kings Warf (how late do they run?).

What are the must do's? We enjoy being with people and socializing (not the same as being at places where it's crowded).

Does the ship serve booze while in port? How about wine at dinner?

Is there a bar or club at King's Warf area?

Thanks for all of your tips.

We just returned yesterday from Bermuda, we were docked at Kings Warf also. We rented the scooters for 2 days and that was the best investment. We toured the whole island stopped and many beaches and spent a little time at each one. Try stopping in for a swizzle at the Swizzle Inn, its a fun place and just to walk in is an adventure. The ship does serve alcohol while in port, however the shops and casino is closed. We enjoyed St George's the best, however it is on the other side of the island. It will take about an hour on the scooter. Hamilton is packed with people and it's all shopping. There is a street festival on Tuesday when you are there in port. I'm assuming you are on the Voyager. If you have any more questions you can e mail me at ntcronin@yahoo.com. Enjoy

Even though you're not beach people. You must go to Horseshoe Bay, it's gorgeous. Lots of beautiful rock formations and the sand and water are unbelievable. If you go into the water up to your chest, you can still see your feet. The sand in the water is firm and feels like a swimming pool bottom.

I agree! Go to Horseshoe Bay. It may be a bit crowded, but it's beautiful and one of our favorite beaches.

acronin....We've been to Bermuda many times, but have never spent much time in St. Georges. What would you suggest doing there?

You may want to go to the Bermuda forum. Lots of info there.

If you don't snorket or scuba dive; I would try helmot diving to get a realistic idea of what is happening under the sea. I would suggest Harleys rather than Peppercorn excursion. They put a old fashion divers helmut on your head (not heavy under the water) and pump oxyen into it. Your head never gets wet and you can see perfectly (even accomodates your eye glasses). You all hold onto a plastci guide line and the "tour guide" leads you around the coral reef and with a slate and chalk tells you what you are seeing. There is also a giant fish (Norman) who they feed and who remains in the area for the guide to show off and for you to touch. I highly recommend it for those who have never been "under the sea". You are in reality only ten feet down both you feel like you are on the bottom of the sea. Way different experience being in the water then seeing it through a glass bottom boat, semisubmergible or nautilus that goes down much further

This is great so far. Here's an update to all of the things to do as recommended by the posters above:

1. Horseshoe Bay -- beach and rock formations

2. Swizzle Inn for a rum swizzle (Where is the location?)

3. St George's (what is there to do?, where to go specifically?)

4. Tues Night Street Festival at Dockyards

5. Helmet Diving -- Harley's (where are they located?)

6. 2 day bus and ferry pass -- $20 per person

Are there any nightclubs on the island?

We were docked in St George's and took a nice walk around the area outside of town along the water then back into town for some shopping. They also have horse and buggy rides which I'm sure they have at the other docks too. We took the ferry to Hamilton which seemed more "congested" than SG, but very pretty. As far as nightclubs, ask the crew, they know where to go. http://www.bermuda.com/entertainment/nightclubsdiscos/
