Carnival shore to ship communications

Carnival has a number posted on their website that can be called to locate and contact you in case of an emergency. You can call home direct from your cabin on the phone if needed but that is pretty expensive per minute.

If you call Carnival they will give you a phone number to give to your family. When someone calls they have to give your ship and when it left. We have a group that someone always has it when leaving Teenagers at home...

They do have shore to ship. The caller must have a credit card, your ship, your cabin number and a whole lot of patience. It is $10 a minute from the time the call starts until you hang up. We had to use it for an emergency this summer and it was $70 for a 60 second voicemail when all was said and done.

If you call from the room it is $1.99 a minute--I'd go that route to check in.

As I recall, they ended Shore to Ship service Nov, 2013.

There is no longer a Carnival number or Carnival way to reach you on the ship.

You HAVE to use your/a cellphone - probably not going to help anyone with a prepaid phone.

Shore to Ship totally ended on 11/27/13

The old $9.50/min credit card option is GONE

Maybe things will change down the road.

Here's a post from another thread we had going last week:

From this thread: Emergency Contact

Hate to burst the bubble, but I just called the 800 227-6482 and asked how to get in touch with somebody who is on a cruise for an emergency message. I was told the option for ship to shore is no longer available and you need to call that persons' cell phone. So you need to check with your cell provider and figure out the best plan while onboard.

Also from Carnival.com FAQs as of today:

Telephone Communication - Ship-to-Shore

Ship-to-Shore Communication

For our guest's convenience, the ship's telecommunications network offers direct dialing via satellite from the stateroom telephone. This is available 24 hours a day regardless of the ship's location. This service is closed on the final day of the cruise at 4:00am.

The rate is $1.99 per minute, and charges are billed to the guest's on board Sail and Sign Card. Since all communication is via satellite, the charges apply to all calls including calling cards, credit cards, 800 toll-free numbers and collect calls.

Please Note:

· The rate above applies to calls for when the ship is visiting Europe as well.

· Parents can request for the Ship-to-Shore connection be deactivated by contacting the on board Guest Services desk.

· The calls are charged to the 1st guest listed on the reservation.

· Information and Instructions can be found in the ‘Ship’s Directory’ in the stateroom.

Shore-to-Ship Communication

Effective 11/27/13: This service is no longer offered.

There was another thread about this recently. Somebody called Carnival and was told the following -

In emergency have the person cal 1-800-227-6482 with booking #, date sailed, ship name, & your name. The ship will be contacted & message left for you to call home or whatever.
