BubbaNJ Posted January 11, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 11, 2014 We are booked on the April 11th Enchantment weekend cruise, stopping at Nassau first, then Cococay! I saw a bunch of threads about cruisers not being able to go to Cococay due to rough seas. When do they usually make the decision to scrap the stop and does it become an overnight stay in Nassau or an entire day at sea? Thanks!

For us, the decision was made at Coco Cay, so it was a day at sea, slowly making our way back to Port Canaveral. Last November we were told as we were pulling into Nassau that CocoCay was being cancelled so we would be staying overnight in Nassau and would leave the next day, I believe we left at 2 pm ... Ken at the beach Posted January 11, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 11, 2014 In December 2012 as we sat eating breakfast in he WJ watching the waves crash over top of the break wall on Coco Cay the Captain made the announcement that we all knew was coming. sharktums Posted January 11, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 11, 2014 As others have said it will just depend on weather, conditions, etc. You may know the night before you may not know till you're there and they send some of the crew out to check if it's safe. If they also know that bad weather is coming later it could be beautiful but they won't unload because they know it won't be safe later. As a completely unscientific answer we've been supposed to go three times and only got to go once out of those.

Simply put, it depends when the decision to cancel the port us made. If it's made the day of most likely you'll have an extra sea day. If you are already on Nassau (and there is pier space in port) you may do an overnight there. Coco Cay has a notoriously narrow rocky channel that must be tendered through. High wind conditions can make safe passage difficult. Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
ehfl Posted January 11, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 11, 2014 They usually pull up to Coco Cay and evaluate the sea conditions and forecast. If you see waves crashing over the harbor entrance, then you're not going ashore, so plan something nice for a night out in Nassau.

CruiseEatRelax Posted March 6, 2014 #9 Share Posted March 6, 2014 Dissapointed to hear this. Does this seem to happen more often during a certain time of year or could it happen during any season? Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

It could happen during any season. We're about 80% successful getting to Coco Cay.
