cruising Alaska land and sea tour

we were thinking of doing the princess cruise and land package . we were thinking of taking the on your own option. Is this a bad choice for our first time to Alaska.

I highly recommend Princess for Alaska - Diamond Princess if possible. That land package can be great, just do lots of research. We prefer renting a car and staying at cabins, bed and breakfasts etc. while on the land portion. It takes a little more planning, but so much more flexibility.
