Wildflowers1 Posted January 12, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 12, 2014 What is the difference between room types 8B, 8C, 8D, 8E, and 8F??? I think I have seen this a long time ago and I cannot seem to find it with a search. Thanks! :):):) I may be wrong, but what I understand it is the type of Cabin. Where on the ship its located or if it's Cove Balcony, regular balcony, inside or ocean view.
cruise n' fool Posted January 12, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 12, 2014 I believe the number is the category. 8 is a balcony and the letter has to do with your location. 8E is a lower deck than 8D. For example. Hope that helps it's what I found from searching here.
forwardcabin Posted January 12, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 12, 2014 · Cabin Types - The preceding number refers to the type of cabin. · Interior - 1, 3, & 4 · Ocean View - 6 · Balcony - 7, 8 & 9 · Suite - are no longer referenced by type number · Cabin Categories - Each cabin type is then divided into categories based on their "desirability". A letter is used to denote the category. Generally the later the letter is in the alphabet the more desirable the cabin. More desirable categories will have higher price rates. The more desirable cabins are typically on the middle to upper decks close to the center of the ship. Although aft cabins are often considered quite desirable. Other things that affect desirability are things like obstructions and the size of the balcony. · Interior - 1A, 3J (picture window), 4A, 4B, 4C, 4D, 4E, 4F, 4G, 4H, and 4K (french doors). · Ocean View - 6A, 6B, 6C. · Balcony - 7A (obstructed balcony), 8A, 8B, 8C, 8D, 8E, and 8F. 8M and 8N are Extended Balconies. 9B is a Premium Balcony. 9C is a Premium Vista Balcony. · Suite - JS (Junior Suite), OS (Ocean Suite), GS (Grand Suite). · Cabin Sizes - These are the average room sizes for the particular cabin type. · Interior - 185 square feet · Ocean View - 220 square feet · Balcony - 185 square feet · Junior Suite & Ocean Suite - 275 square feet · Grand Suite - 300-345 square feet · Balcony Sizes - These are the average balcony sizes for the particular cabin category. · 8A through 8F - 35 square feet · 8M and 8N - 60 square feet · 9B - 75-85 square feet · 9C - 75-275 square feet · Junior Suite (JS) - 35-40 square feet · Ocean Suite (OS) - 65-85 square feet · Grande Suite (GS) - 85-115 square feet · Bed Options and Sizes - · Twin Bed - 78" L x 33" W · Queen Bed - 78" L x 60" W · Single Sofa bed - 78" L x 32" W · Double Sofa bed - 70" L x 50" W · Trundle Bed - 73" L x 29" W (mattress 4-1/2” thick) · Roll-Away Bed - 76" L x 30" W (mattress 4-1/2” thick) · Upper Berth - 78" L x 33" W o Safety Rail - 50" L x 6" H o Weight Restriction - 250 pounds o Position - 58" off the floor; 27" below the ceiling · Portable Crib - 38" L x 24" W
edinboro cruiser Posted January 12, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 12, 2014 It has to do with location. My balcony cabin on the lido next week is an 8e. Higher in alphabet you go the higher the price Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
elvisrocks Posted January 12, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 12, 2014 (edited) My understanding is that 8? is a balcony Cabin and the letter determines where it is. The higher the letter the higher up on ship it is. Example: On Triumph Deck 6 Upper 8A is forward or aft and 8B is midship Deck 7 Empress 8C is forward or aft and 8C is midship It could be 1 deck up or 2 decks up I guess depending on how many Cabin Decks there are. Ehpride Posted January 12, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 12, 2014 It's just location. Category 8 is balcony and the higher the letter, the higher/more midship the location.
etwright Posted January 12, 2014 Author #10 Share Posted January 12, 2014 So I am booked ES in an 8B on deck 6. I checked Fareviewer and it shows free upgrade from 8B to 8C, 8D, 8E, and 8F. Would I be eligible and would it be worth it? Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
skooter35 Posted January 12, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 12, 2014 YES! I just called Carnival and they could have moved us to mid ship and higher floor. Unfortunately we choose to stay where we were due to the fact that all 3 cabins could not be moved to the same area. We would have been really far from eachother and thats not what we want. We are perfectly happy with what we first chose but we could have gotten the upgrades if we werent so picky.

As far as if it would be worth it, I think it depends on your current cabin and the upgrade. I try to be between decks of cabins. Personally, I don't find just being higher an upgrade.
