livintheshiplife Posted January 13, 2014 #51 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Instead of all this wild speculation, what's wrong with waiting to see what happens? No one other than those who have signed the contracts and approving the work that is to be done know for sure. Why not wait it out and be surprised? If the 2.0 bells and whistles are such a huge concern, why not just book one of the ships where this is already in place? Because this ship may have upgrades that may not be experienced on other ships

livintheshiplife Posted January 13, 2014 #53 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Two weeks is a lot of time for assembly. Remember, any construction taking place on these ships will just be the final assembly, everything is pre-fabricated on shore and is just attached to the ship during the dry dock. Go look at the Carnival Spirit Dry dock pictures on Carnival's facebook page to see how it's done. Major assemblies for the waterworks were preassembled and just lifted in place. The only real construction work on board would be installing the waterworks surface and the necessary plumbing for the new pieces. Similarly, each Conquest ship had the original lido deck hot tubs demolished and new hot tubs constructed in the stadium seating area. That was also completed in less than 2 weeks. But why was the sunshines drydock 49 days? The difference between 49 days and 14 is huge. Both involve prefabricated pieces
Webb of Joy Posted January 13, 2014 #54 Share Posted January 13, 2014 There is one poster, posting under 4-5 different names, that tries to whip up a frenzy every time a ship is going into dry dock. Starting multiple threads about the same thing, with nothing but pure speculation and rumor. Their guess is as good as yours. ;) The correct information Comes from John's Facebook page as he has he done today.

Branman Posted January 13, 2014 #62 Share Posted January 13, 2014 But why was the sunshines drydock 49 days? The difference between 49 days and 14 is huge. Both involve prefabricated pieces The sunshine involved the demolition of the main theatre, both dining rooms, and the addition of an entire deck of the ship. That requires a large amount of primary structure work and electrical work, and more importantly, introduces dependencies in the build flow. You can't simultaneously demolish the main theatre and install the liquid lounge. Changing around the decorations of lounges or bolting a waterpark or ropes course on the top deck is a very different order of magnitude. For Freedom, it's possible simultaneously add a waterpark, ropes course, and renovate lounges and food venues. It's just a question of what they want to do. winddawn Posted January 13, 2014 Author #70 Share Posted January 13, 2014 Nothing major needs to be done, except for throwing a waterslides on the ship This makes sense. This ship was just built in 2007. It's not like Destiny that was built in the 90s.
