josephone Posted January 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 15, 2014 Fellow cruisers, Does anyone have information on the rioting in Bangkok and whether it will affect using The port at Klong Toey as the port for the Shadow on the February 27 Singapore to Hong Kong cruise. It seems as though there will be nothing to see if many of the streets are closed. This happened in 2010 and was very serious for downtown Bangkok and unfortunately many people were hurt. We would like to hear from anyone withe thoughts. There are only 4 of us signed for our meet and greet and we have been wondering
Rare drron29 Posted January 15, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 15, 2014 The port is quite some distance from the protests.Peaceful now but by the 27th feb who knows. I keep an eye on this blog-an Englishman who lives in Thailand- http://www.richardbarrow.com/2014/01/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-bangkok-shutdown/
Seafairer Posted January 17, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 17, 2014 Whatever happens (or doesn't), you can rest assured that Silversea won't put passengers or crew in harm's way. They'll change the itinerary and divert the ship if there is any possibility at all of danger.
cruiseerf Posted January 20, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 20, 2014 Bangkok Protesters have not rioted, they have strategically shut down 7 KEY intersections making it Very difficult to get around Bangkok. There have been two isolated incidents, one this past weekend where someone through explosives into the crowd. That said.....If you avoid these protest areas.....you will be fine. Klong Toey is close to downtown Bangkok......Seabourn also docks there. It is a secured port requiring id for entry etc. a good guide should be able to know the situation before you arrive.... Bangkok is a great city! hopefully this will end soon.
Geo3543 Posted January 22, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 22, 2014 Bangkok pollution is very bad. Many on 2013 cruise affected and we returned home with bronchitis. Might take some masks along. Port area was okay. Many, many people at Grand Palace

It will be implemented At the moment both the US and Uk have put out travel advisories on Thailand. Who knows, things may change! Any other ideas for us?
