If entertainment and activity is what you're looking for, then you will probably be pretty bored and unhappy with Celebrity.

And if that's the case, we may find there's not really a cruise line out there that suits us and it's time to look at some other type vacations. I have my concerns with Celebrity maybe being more "stuffy" and formal than we'd like, but with the drink package promo they are running we can sail to new ports with drinks included for less than we can take a 7 day on Carnival to the same old east/western ports.

We may decide to give Carnival another shot on a smaller ship and see what happens from there.

Celebrity is not stuffy, but there are less kids (thank goodness). I'm not seeing any significant difference in ports (Haiti? No, thanks) between the two unless you take the longer more expensive cruises.

I enjoyed my two cruises on Celebrity. I think the food is better, but if you don't eat in the MDR in the evening you have very limited options which are exactly the same each night.

We sailed the Liberty 2/1 and we were VERY disappointed that there were no steel drums or island music on the ship. It took away from the experience. While we enjoyed the live music from Tom and Aaron, we would have really enjoyed some live island music as well.

The concerts are a nice choice, and I don't think they are replacing anything. If they are I doubt it is anything that will be missed. I love my steel drum guys during sail away, an off and on by the pool some times throughout the cruise but I also agree a variety is nice out there.

The PROBLEM is when the other music is a DJ! If you get a good one, they keep a decent party atmosphere going, play a variety of songs and at a decent LEVEL THAT HUMANS CAN TOLLERATE! Get a bad one and they play nothing but club music all day without anything else and they play it so damn loud you can't even have a conversation on the serenity deck unless you yell. It's hit or miss.

I was on the Liberty last month. The D played the music so loud, you could not even carry on a conversation. You came away with your ears hurting. When the DJ started talking, he ramped up th volume ever higher. Complaints were made to the Cruise Director, but he would not correct the situation.

Carnival:

Please, oh please, bring back the 3 or 4 piece bands with reggae music and the steel drums to the lido deck. Nothing better than that music at sail away and other times.

Also the nice bands near the casino.

Carnival, are you listening? Please listen.

Thanks;) :)

The problem is their listening to some bad consulting firm.

Agreed. Unfortunately, bringing back steel drums and live Lido Deck entertainment would not make Carnival any significant amount of money. (Maybe some of us would book, but we're a drop in the bucket). On the other hand, Carnival Live will be very lucrative for them.

Sigh... can't fault them for making money as a for profit business, but I can fault them for not doing BOTH.

I would not pay for Carnival live as far I'm concerned this is a just a way for Carnival to generate more $$$$$ and if this catches on than look out the guests will be paying for the entertainment. I realize things change but at least make the change go in the right direction. Carnival has made changes that are good but the entertainment section is not one of them.
