maryann ns Posted February 7, 2014 #2 Share Posted February 7, 2014 There is no public bus, but you can easily rent a car. Some companies, including Enterprise and Budget, will pick you up at the pier. Here are a few links to get you started. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1840164 http://www.tomsportguides.com/SydneyNS-10-05-2011.pdf https://maps.google.ca/maps?saddr=Sydney,+NS+B1P+1A1&daddr=Baddeck,+NS+to:Iona,+NS+to:Christmas+Island,+NS+to:Destination+Cape+Breton+Association,+Sydney+Marine+Terminal,+Sydney,+NS+B1P+1A1&hl=en&sll=46.14825,-60.203319&sspn=0.00721,0.021136&geocode=FSgcwAIdzmNp_CmTkRO0KuVnSzF_0zNYc7qlyA%3BFc1tvwIdDPVg_CnPkSNJLGJdSzHz0SeXSM56XA%3BFZJPvQIdijBg_Cl3_U_XX2hdSzG-umoFiqZDow%3BFRVTvQIdPNpg_CmLNVmJ_mddSzHgrABkv7cAyg%3BFeQpwAIdzF5p_CGQbhrxmTgVbg&mra=ls&t=m&z=
Rare 1kaper Posted February 7, 2014 #3 Share Posted February 7, 2014 There are public buses, but none that go to Baddeck. There are several car companies that will pick you up. The nearest one is about 2 miles away from the port.
anneke lief Posted February 7, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted February 7, 2014 Many thanks for the great information. I have another question, maybe for someone who lives in Sydny. We are hikers. Are there nice hiking trails in our around Saint-John with nice scenery. Thanks
Rare 1kaper Posted February 7, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 7, 2014 Many thanks for the great information. I have another question, maybe for someone who lives in Sydny. We are hikers. Are there nice hiking trails in our around Saint-John with nice scenery. Thanks Are you asking if there are nice hiking trails around Sydney? Yes, there are lots. Many of them may depend on how long you are in port. There is a popular one near Baddeck (since you mentioned Baddeck) http://www.cbisland.com/things-to-do/outdoor-adventure/hiking/uisge-ban-falls There are a number of them in the National Park, but its probably going to take you 2 hours to get there, so you need to factor that it. Its part of the Cabot Trail, which is a highly recommended thing to do in CB. Trails #16-24 would be the ones closest to Sydney and within a 2-2 1/2 hour drive from there http://www.pc.gc.ca/eng/pn-np/ns/cbreton/activ/randonnee-hiking.aspx Saint John - I don't know but I believe there was some mentioned in a thread on this page - the St John and Halifax one. donovan52 Posted February 26, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 26, 2014 I thought I replied to this last week, but I must not have hit submit! The only trail I can think of within walking distance of the port would be the Baille Ard Trails - http://bailleardnaturetrails.com/ They aren't huge, more of a nice walk really. They're about 3km from downtown where the port is. I think the next closest would be Coxheath Mountain - http://www.coxheathhills.com/ That would probably be the better of the two hikes. It's about 15-20 min from downtown by car.
Cruise_More_Often Posted June 1, 2014 #7 Share Posted June 1, 2014 Are there no hiking trails right in Sydney? We're renting cars in three places already, and we'd just like to use our feet in Sydney. The last time we were there, we did a wonderful tour with Don Blackwood, so we have seen part of the Cabot Trail.
