Priceline - Sheraton Old San Juan

I just got the Sheraton in Old San Juan for my Pre-cruise hotel for Friday and Saturday night in March. I got it for $141 a night, is that a pretty decent price? Also, is there a beach that's not too far away that wouldn't be bad to get to? What's the resort fee that they will charge me?

Just for the record, it's Sheraton Puerto Rico Convention Center Hotel & Casino. Not the one right outside of the cruise port.. Is this one better than the one near the cruise port? Is it fairly a safe area too?

The Sheraton Convention Center is a nice hotel. Very nice pool and sun area. We've stayed there the last 3 years pre-cruise. Not much around it so plan on a taxi to old San Juan or anywhere else, including the port. You can see the ship from the hotel but too far to lug bags. Taxis are pretty inexpensive. Casita Miramar restaurant is a short walk and very good. Resort fee is 15% and covers wi-fi and bottled water. Never stayed at the other Sheraton in Old San Juan so I can't compare them. Rick

Thanks! So the 140 a night I paid for Friday and Saturday night is a decent deal by the sounds of it?

We've stayed twice at the Sheraton and enjoyed it both times - for 140/night I'd definitely go back. The best rate we found last year was I think 169$. We didn't want to risk priceline because the year before we ended up at the Marriott Stellaris and were not impressed. The pool area at the Sheraton is good - lots of lounge chairs and it overlooks the harbour so you can see the ships. There is a small airport in between the hotel and the port and there are lots of little planes taking off - might be interesting to watch for a little while. Our room was beautiful and the whole property is very clean.

Other posters are right, there isn't much to do in the area. If we have more than one day we will normally take a taxi into Old San Juan and back (I believe you can take the bus as well, but I don't know specifics). Otherwise, we just relax. There is a Texas de Brazil in the same building as the hotel which we found to be better quality than the one we went to in Florida. There is also a restaurant next door called Ficus Mexican Bar and Grill, but it gets mixed reviews.

Sound like a great price to me. When I checked that hotel for March 14th and 15th - needed a double queen room it was $325 a night. My budget was closer to $200 a night, so we booked elsewhere. It looks like a very nice hotel.

I got the same hotel (Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino) about a month ago booking through Hotwire for my upcoming end of April trip- My room would have been $152/night (but I had an extra $25 off due to downloading and using the app on my smart phone) therefore, it cost me only $127 for one night which I am still really pleased with.

Thanks for the tips that others posted regarding the places to eat within walking distance. I'm still trying to plan out my precruise stay in San Juan. Our flight lands the day before out cruise shortly after noon, so we have a full day and whatever we want to spend in town before boarding the ship the next day. I am really looking forward to exploring Old San Juan. Any other ideas or suggestions regarding the location of this hotel would be greatly appreciated. Is it worth spending time at the beach since I'll be visiting many beaches on the cruise during the week - or should I just stick to sightseeing a bit in OSJ?

I would skip the beach and stick to sightseeing. I love OSJ - lots of little shops and places to eat, plus it is just a beautiful place for walking around. We had lunch at Barrachina on our last two trips and enjoyed it. Might try something different this time to get some variety! I don't have much beach experience, but I'm not sure the nearby beaches will measure up to the other islands. The day we were at the Marriott (Condado area) the water was very rough and dangerous to swim in. We were only there for one day though so that may not be the norm!

That's precisely the direction I'm leaning towards. Since I plan on working beach time in while in St. Thomas/John, Tortola, St. Maarten & Bermuda - I'm sure I won't miss the beach time in San Juan too. I'm thinking after we check into the hotel, take a taxi to Old San Juan for lunch (Barrachina is on my list for at least a pina colada!), walk the streets/shops & probably visit a fort or two. Then, depending on how we feel the next day, will depend on if we think we'd like to spend more time walking around Old San Juan, or just head to the ship around lunch time.

It's late and I'm tired, so forgive me. Please clarify the two Sheraton hotels. Which one is across the street from the cruise port and I think next door to Senor Frog, what do you suppose is a good price to pay for a night at that location?

And where is the cruise port in relation to the airport?

The Sheraton Old San Juan is the one next to Senor Frogs in Old San Juan across the street from the pier where Carnival docks.

The other Sheraton - Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel and Casino is by the other port (Pan Am) and is not near Old San Juan nor is it walking distance to much.....but it has beautiful pools/beach.

The Condado area.

I was hoping to get a beachfront hotel when I booked, but this will do fine, I'm sure. I knew I'd have to take a taxi to explore Old San Juan either way...

Don't forget to download the Hotwire app for the promo code where you can saving an additional $25 on your booking (like I did!). :)
