What is in the immediate port area when getting off the ship ? If we chose to stay in that area , what could we do ?

I like the idea of Monkey Business/Victor Bodden.....but just read the Honduras Travel Warning. Wondering if we should just stay at port. Any monkeys there?

Is there a beach right there?

I assume you are speaking of your upcoming Carnival cruise? (Carnival and their lines dock at their private pier and the other lines dock right in town)

Carnival's pier at Mahogany Bay is completely fabricated pier stop, like all of the others throughout the Caribbean.

They created a fake beach right there where the ships dock. (water was very murky, as it isn't a real beach. Not crystal clear like the gorgeous, West End beaches)

You walk up a hill to the shopping area. (again, just like the pier areas at Costa Maya, Grand Turk, etc. etc. etc.)

Personally, I think it would be a shame to not get away from Mahogany Bay and see the gorgeous beaches on the West End instead of staying at the beach at Mahogany bay, which you can see at any murky northeast beach.

We did a day tour with Victor Bodden, where they took us wherever we wanted to go all day and waited at each stop for us.

We just had to pay admission to wherever they took us. (Iguana Farm, etc.)

One of the best excursions of our 15 cruises thus far.

The monkeys at Victor's house were great...

If you choose to not book a driver for the day, just remember the cabs are not regulated in Roatan, so make sure you verify the cost to you chosen destination. (one cab can charge you $10, the next one in line can charge you $20 for the same destination)
