BabsM Posted July 22, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 22, 2005 We are considering a March 2006 cruise on the NCL Sun. Does anyone have any advice for us? What are the pros and the cons? We are a family of four (kids 12 and 14). We will be cruising with two other families (kids 13 and 5) and one with no kids. Our last cruise was on the Carnival Conquest and we loved it. Would appreciate any inside information on the Sun. Thanks.
NJDeb Posted July 22, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2005 BabsM....We sailed the Sun 2 years ago.....We loved it.....The only con that comes to mind was the buffet area.....not enough seating inside...We were in Alaska and it rained a lot so we couldn't use the outside seating ....was a zoo inside at peak times.....but there are always other options for breakfast and lunch.....dinner in the main dining rooms was never a problem...Le Bistro was wonderful......ship was always clean and so were our rooms....What we did was book 2 rooms....a balcony for us and an inside directly across for the kids.....gave us a lot more room and 2 bathrooms....and mom and dad some much needed privacy....When we sailed last year on another cruise we actually combined 2 familes kids into one room.....they ranged from 12 to 17 years old and all went well....My daughter age 15 at the time we were on the Sun loved the teens club...they had a great bunch of kids onboard and had a lot of activities for them to do....my son was10 at the time and enjoyed the kids club too..... You'll love the Sun, its a great ship :) Since you'll be in the Western Caribbean, you'll have no problem enjoying the buffet in the Great Outdoor cafe... not much rain on that itinerary usually. One tip for dinner: People seem to be less inclined to seek out the Seven Seas dining room for some reason. (The Four Seasons dining room is located directly next to the reception area, and gets more traffic. Seven Seas is located at the rear of the ship and is a little more difficult to "run into" by accident.) This makes it usually less crowded than the Four Seasons :) We will be on the sun again in November and look forward to it very much! :)
Big Al B. Posted July 22, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 22, 2005 I agree the Sun is a great ship. We really enjoyed spending 17 days on her this Spring. It didn't rain one day during the cruise and I must say I have to agree about the seating in the buffet. Unless we got there fairly early each meal, we often had to wander in and out trying to find a table to sit at. One tip: breakfast and lunch there were often seats in the Pacific Heights restaurant (it is the pasta and pizza station at lunch). We noticed the same thing about the Seven Seas (this was the same on the Sky which was Sun's sister ship :)). You should have a great time.
