Shoe question

Hello everyone! We have an Eastern Med cruise booked for September. My question is what type of shoe do you wear for touring cities in Europe that require a great deal of walking. For example, we will be in Rome for a few days precruise and Venice a few days post cruise. Of course the most comfortable shoe is a sneaker but what can you wear if you are dressed in a casual skirt or capri pants. Something that will be comfortable for walking all day? Any suggestions, Thanks,Gretchen

I would choose Birkenstocks for almost any excursion. I've found that they are way more comfortable than sneakers. I do, however, have weird feet and find most sneakers uncomfortable for long periods of time.

These took me all through Europe for 2 weeks two years in a row. I don't have any Birkenstocks w/ ankle straps and I even climbed small tower turrets in Rothenberg and up the steps to the bell tower of Notre Dame. I never had a problem. The only problem, as w/ any open sandal, is the occasional pebble in the footbed.

I also fell in love w/ my Saucony Grid Diversion running shoes. They were lightweight, supportive and comfy! They were my back up and we had a few cooler days and it was nice to have warm tootsies if needed. ;)

I wear a pair of flat, leather soled sandals, made in Italy. I bought them in black and they were so comfortable, I bought another pair in beige. I've worn these walking though Spain, Portugal, France and London on one cruise and then though Brazil and Argentina on our last cruise.

I just brought the sandals that are the most comfortable that I wear at home most often and knew they'd be comfortable anywhere in the world.

Never been to Europe, but I would recommend you take a look at Clark's shoes. They sell them all over and are the most comfortable shoes I've worn.

I've read on a travel site to wear good walking shoes but not gym shoes in Europe since Europeans look down on Americans for the sloppy casual dress so often adopted by tourists.
