GMONT01 Posted July 22, 2005 #1 Share Posted July 22, 2005 Hello everyone! We have an Eastern Med cruise booked for September. My question is what type of shoe do you wear for touring cities in Europe that require a great deal of walking. For example, we will be in Rome for a few days precruise and Venice a few days post cruise. Of course the most comfortable shoe is a sneaker but what can you wear if you are dressed in a casual skirt or capri pants. Something that will be comfortable for walking all day? Any suggestions, Thanks,Gretchen
lszu Posted July 22, 2005 #2 Share Posted July 22, 2005 I would choose Birkenstocks for almost any excursion. I've found that they are way more comfortable than sneakers. I do, however, have weird feet and find most sneakers uncomfortable for long periods of time.
caviargal Posted July 22, 2005 #3 Share Posted July 22, 2005 When I travel to Europe in the summer I bring a pair of Clarks woven slides with a rubber sole and a pair of Nike mules. They both go the distance and look cute with capris and skirts.
Silver Anniv Posted July 22, 2005 #4 Share Posted July 22, 2005 When I went to Europe I wore my Born sandals, and black walking shoes.Have a great time!
mdmomof7 Posted July 23, 2005 #5 Share Posted July 23, 2005 These took me all through Europe for 2 weeks two years in a row. I don't have any Birkenstocks w/ ankle straps and I even climbed small tower turrets in Rothenberg and up the steps to the bell tower of Notre Dame. I never had a problem. The only problem, as w/ any open sandal, is the occasional pebble in the footbed. I also fell in love w/ my Saucony Grid Diversion running shoes. They were lightweight, supportive and comfy! They were my back up and we had a few cooler days and it was nice to have warm tootsies if needed. ;)

Any suggestions, Thanks,Gretchen I wear a pair of flat, leather soled sandals, made in Italy. I bought them in black and they were so comfortable, I bought another pair in beige. I've worn these walking though Spain, Portugal, France and London on one cruise and then though Brazil and Argentina on our last cruise. I just brought the sandals that are the most comfortable that I wear at home most often and knew they'd be comfortable anywhere in the world. vmom Posted July 24, 2005 #7 Share Posted July 24, 2005 Never been to Europe, but I would recommend you take a look at Clark's shoes. They sell them all over and are the most comfortable shoes I've worn. I've read on a travel site to wear good walking shoes but not gym shoes in Europe since Europeans look down on Americans for the sloppy casual dress so often adopted by tourists. GMONT01 Posted July 24, 2005 Author #8 Share Posted July 24, 2005 Thank's for the excellent suggestions. I will see if I can do some sandal shopping today. We cruise in September so I will have plenty of time to break them in. Gretchen
