Buying Alcohol On Board

In the ports I have sailed out of (and as far as I can remember) tax is charged on all purchases (even mixed drinks) until you are at sea. And with the long trek down the Mississippi River, you may not be at sea for quite a while.

This is correct on cokes and drinks at the bar. They don't open the duty free shops until you are out at sea and once they are open, there is no tax charged.

Also the last morning they will charge tax for anything bought onboard, including last minute pictures.
