QuentinH Posted February 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 24, 2014 A man on our roll call has claimed that for his cruise coming up, he has be granted a status upgrade to platinum for this cruise only??? Has anyone heard of this? I certainly would not be happy if I was a cruiser with 45 days at sea trying to get days in to make platinum and then have someone granted it on the ship for one cruise only as a favor? Is he lying or has anyone ever heard about this? Here are the posts, I can't make sense of them >>>Not exactly sure how I received it. Got an email last week saying they were going to upgrade me to Platinum status for this cruise! One of those things where I don't ask questions, I just smile, say thank you and move on. No, not turning platinum during the cruise. I've taken multiple cruises with Carnival and while not Platinum status yet, I think this is just a nice thing Carnival is doing to reward loyalty. I work in the hotel industry and I will do the same thing for my loyal clients.

falkcor Posted February 24, 2014 #4 Share Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) it was a legitimate promotion. i tried to find the info for you but apparently the promo has expired: http://www.cclpromos.com/specialplatinum/index.php that was the site. basically it was one-cruise only upgrade to platinum. i read about this a few weeks / months ago i think. sailor_jimc Posted February 24, 2014 #5 Share Posted February 24, 2014 It's called Fast to the Fun.. you have to pay for it... but bascially it gives you most of the perks of being Platinum.
SailAway1959 Posted February 24, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 24, 2014 It is (or was?) an offer that went out to some past guests. I have no idea what criteria was used to choose who got the offer, but I'll bet it was nice for those who did. The special status is not permanent. It is just for whatever cruise they have coming up. I think it's a great marketing tool, just like offering a balcony or suite to someone who has a window cabin booked. It gives the guest a taste of what they could have, right? We were offered a cabin upgrade and haven't slipped back since. I'm sure Carnival is hoping the same thing happens with people who are granted special status for that sailing... they'll love it so much they'll add more cruise days to get it all the time. I'll bet if they offered it to people who hadn't cruised in a while they'd start getting a whole new run cruisers. Well played, Carnival, well played. V. prissihawg Posted February 24, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 24, 2014 I received that offer in the mail from Carnival. You had to book by Jan 31 and you had your choice of an on-board credit or platinum for one cruise only.
GRENLOCH Posted February 24, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 24, 2014 We got it for our cruise in May, I don't think it's a big deal. Just a bone to show some appreciation to past guests.:)

SailAway1959 Posted February 24, 2014 #11 Share Posted February 24, 2014 Remember the promotion and just another slap in the face to us platinums. I am truly sorry that you feel this way. I guess it's a matter of how you see things. I love it when I get special treatment, but not because I want to be the only one getting it. I just like how it makes me feel and I'm pleased as heck that someone else will be able to enjoy that special treatment, no matter how it came to be. Everyone deserves a little piece of that from time to time and hey, if there's a way for a select few to get it and maybe entice them to strive for it all the time, even better for the company making the offer. Oh well, to each their own. Enjoy. Vicki
SailAway1959 Posted February 24, 2014 #12 Share Posted February 24, 2014 Does Faster to the fun temperlary give you Platnium Status? Indeed it does, Jay. But be sure to book that early because those "excursions" sell off quickly. We are sailing in November and there were only 2 left last time I looked. Have fun! Disconnections Posted February 24, 2014 #13 Share Posted February 24, 2014 Remember the promotion and just another slap in the face to us platinums. You are absolutely correct, Stu. The "brilliant" loyalty program, Faster to the Fun, and this recent promotion. Indeed it does, Jay. But be sure to book that early because those "excursions" sell off quickly. We are sailing in November and there were only 2 left last time I looked. Have fun! Vicki Faster to the Fun does not give you temporary Platinum status... it gives you select Platinum perks. Sparky2 Posted February 24, 2014 #14 Share Posted February 24, 2014 Does Faster to the fun temperlary give you Platnium Status? No, FTTF does not give you temporary Platinum Status. It does give you Priority boarding (supposedly after Plat/Diamond) & debarkation + special line at guest services + priority tendering. It also allows you to go to your cabin as soon as you board + early luggage delivery. You do not receive the chocolate treats or Platinum/Diamond gift. hfweather Posted February 24, 2014 #16 Share Posted February 24, 2014 We are red on Carnival and in early Jan. received a postcard in regular mail from Carnival offering us a one time free upgrade to platinum if we booked by 1-31. There was also some on board credit offered. Sadly, I couldn't convince the Mrs. to book.

bungee Posted February 24, 2014 #22 Share Posted February 24, 2014 We got the promo offer. It was a one cruise deal. We have only sailed Carnival twice. I think we are Red status? Since we are temporarily poor as a church mouse, we were not able to consider it. Back we go to dropping our loose change in the piggy bank! LOL. Safe travels. When you start giving them away, the already crowded priority boarding lounges that platinum and diamond members check in at will be even more crowded. Cheapens the platinum status that many of us took seriously at one time but now not so much!! Pat

Ah, so it really didn't tarnish the platinum and above cruisers too much after all, and still gave some potential plantinums a chance to get a little taste of what it could be like. That's a smarter marketing ploy than I originally gave them credit for. :D V.
