First Time Snorkeler

So, I go on a snorkel excursion, where do I leave my pass port and cruise key when I'm in the water?

Dive shops, and probably Sports Authority, have water proof pouches. I've seen them in cruise ship shops, too.

A water proof pouch is good to have for the ship card, and $$$.

However, I'd never trust my passport to a pouch. I leave that in the cabin safe. In port I carry a pass port card. It has limited use, but it is a good alternative.

Been on many snorkel excursions with my husband. Usually, you go on a boat that takes you out to the snorkeling area. You can leave any personal belongings right there at your seat. The crew keeps an eye on everything. But I would not take my passport with me--keep that in your cabin safe.

If you are snorkeling from shore, a lot of places have lockers you can rent. I ditto not taking passport ashore. For example Chankanaab and money bar in Cozumel have lockers you can rent.

What venue are you planning on snorkeling? By boat or shore? DIY or a tour?

I "drag" my understanding wife along when I snorkel and I/we take our driver's licenses for ID on shore exc and leave the passports in the safe. I put my cabin card, driver's license and tip $$ in a good quality quart size ziploc storage bag (like you use for TSA airport screening. I fold it over multi times (just in case) and put it in a pocket of my small dive gear bag where I carry my snorkel gear. My wife doesn't snorkel so she keeps an eye on things. I'm worried more about getting things wet than having it stolen. Hope this helps!
