keep room or upgrade?

We will be on the Century for a 7N California Coastal in April, it is past final payment and we are in 1249 on the Sports deck (deck 12). Basically 1249 is a balcony-less Sunset Verandah and is categorized as an OV4.

We really enjoyed this cabin when we did a Wine Cruise back in 2012, and picked this sail date because the room was available.

I was checking out what prices have been doing and found out that we are eligible for a discount based on our State of residence. We could move up to a Concierge class room for a few hundred more than our current room price.

We really like our current room, this will (realistically) be the last time we would ever be able to sail in this cabin and the extra $ could be put to use on future trips but the added amenities and extra points for sailing in Concierge have me thinking about asking to upgrade (if it is even possible).

Any thoughts pro or con?

Thanks

If you have 123Go or other freebie promo on your current booking, you will likely lose it if you upgrade at the resident rate. Such promos are generally not combinable with discounted fares.

Thanks for your input.

I don't have a 123Go promo associated with this booking and am aware that the discounted rate will supersede any other promo.

The residency discount is significantly greater than the value of 123Go.

I guess what I'm getting at is, are Concierge class rooms on the Century worth it? The C2's that are now available are all on deck 10.

Any other input?

Not intending to be evasive, but it really is difficult to give a meaningful answer for someone whose personal preferences, finances and obligations you don't know.

A couple of things to consider are

- How much you enjoy having a balcony.

For many passengers, it is well worth the money because it greatly enhances their enjoyment of the cruise to have a private balcony for the duration of the entire cruise.

Others do not care about having a balcony at all.

- How great an amount "a few hundred" is to you.

To some that is a significant amount of money that could be used for an automobile payment or credit card or college tuition payment.

To others it is barely more than pocket change that they could quickly dribble away in the casino or bars or souvenir shops without a second thought.

Great response!

I hear you are saying the current cabin has meaning to you. Is this as important as the upgrade?

I would be gunning for the upgrade, but then I am not you!;) I think it would be good to hear more about your cruising style.

We are there as much for the ships as the ports and have no interest getting up at sparrow's time to be first off the ship for a shore day etc. others relish that! We use the balcony heaps & cannot cruise without one. Means less cruises but more of what we like! :)
