Hooking up a DVD player (or any other video player) to Philips TVs on Norwegian Gem

I've seen quite a few posts from people who have tried to hook up their DVD players to Philips TVs on Norwegian Gem and other ships with similar TVs, but couldn't, because the RCA (composite video) AV inputs were blocked. Here's how to unlock them, so you could hook up a DVD player, or any other video player that has composite video output.

Buttons on top of the TV:

<VolDn> <VolUp> <===POWER===> <ChDn> <ChUp>

  1. Press <VolDn> and <VolUp> together to bring up the menu
  2. Press <ChDn> three times to go down to "Install" and press <VolDn> to select
  3. Press <ChDn> three times to go down to "Channel Edit" and press <VolDn> to select
  4. Use <VolUp> or <VolDn> buttons to scroll through inputs and channels; stop when AV2 is displayed in the "Channel" field
  5. Use <ChDn> button to switch to the "Skipped" field, which will display "On"
  6. Press <VolDn> button once to change "Skipped" to "Off" and press <ChUp> to go back to the "Channel" field
  7. Press <VolDn> and <VolUp> together three times to get out of the menu

You should now be on the AV2 input, which should remain open for the duration of your cruise. If you need to go back to the TV channels or the interactive menu, use the channel buttons on the TV. You can only select AV2 again using the buttons on top of the TV, it's one <ChDn> press away from CV1 - the remote will not take you there.

The jacks are in the back of the TV, on the side farther from the cabin wall, inside a groove, and are marked Audio In (R/L) and Video In - red, white and yellow, respectively.

Enjoy!
