We Have Been Whale Watching With Captain Larry Twice. Thoroughly Enjoyed Both trips, Saw A Lot Of Whales, And Are Scheduled Again In July 2014. We Haven't DoneThe Mendenhall Glacier Part.

If you go on his fast boat that has an upper deck, you can get the great views and photos from above looking down at the whales as well as from the lower level.

 

A naturalist goes along to provide the commentary and answer questions while the captain is concentrating on driving the boat and finding the whales.

In addition, the naturalists from the cruise ships often go out whale watching with Captain Larry when they are in Juneau.

 

It is better to have them drop you off at Mendenhall glacier after the whale watching so that you can spend as much or as little time there as you like. That way you can catch the next bus back to the ship whenever you are ready to leave without being time constricted.

 

If you go to Mendenhall first, then you need to be concerned about the time of your pickup and may not get as much time there as you want, or may end up with more time there than you want.

I've taken ORCA Enterprises whale watch with Captain Larry several times since 1999. Their "purple" boat holds a maximum of 40 and there is plenty of room to move around and go outside and also on top.

 

I can highly recommend them.
