Box Jellyfish

I have been reading that Box Jellyfish can be a problem in Hawaii 9-10 days after a full moon. We will be at the BI and Maui during this time. How much of a threat is this? Are there certain islands or areas that are worse then others?

It makes the news every month. Here on Oahu, tourists get stung constantly at Waikiki. There is usually a peak day and then it goes down. The lifeguards will tell you when the highest threat is and where to stay away.

Our beach has the Pourtugese Man O War all the time and I have never been stung. But the Box jellies are a bigger problem for 1 or 2 days.

I was stung by one in Hawaii once, on Waikiki beach. Not horrific, it was bad for a while but I am fine now and not afraid. So even if the worst happens, and out of literally hundreds of people on the beach that day I was, to my knowldedge, the only one stung, you will be fine.
