Victoria

Recommended Posts

We will be in Port in May...but on a Sunday from 7-2. I see the gardens open at 9 and most tours start at 9. Is anything in Victoria open on a Sunday prior to 9? Or are we better off doing a walking tour to see buildings, etc? What about shops? Do they open later on Sundays?

Thanks for any advice/suggestions.

Are you on the Star Princess - if so I am on that one as well.

A few of the shops selling trinkets may open early and while Victoria is a popular tourist destination the fact remains that it is government town and the tourist season won't be in full swing for a couple more weeks.

A walk into town along the waterfront or a visit to Beacon Hill Park is what I intend to do if the weather is favorable.

Cheers!

Dennis

If you are planning a walking tour of Victoria, do not overlook Government House, the home of the Queen's representative - the grounds are open from sunrise to sunset with no charge. The grounds are maintained by volunteers and the gardens are wonderful. There is also a very nice tea room in one of the refurbished buildings on the lower grounds.

It is a great opportunity to see how the top of the other half lives.

You could walk along Dallas Road to Beacon Hill Park, spend some time there, walk through a residential area to Government House, then go to Craigdarroch Castle (built by a coal baron) and then walk to downtown Victoria. From downtown keep the water on your right and you will find a pleasant waterfront walk back to Ogden Point where you docked.

This could easily use up all of your time in port.

Thanks for the tip on the Government House. Originally we were going to shuttle into Victoria, but seeing the couple comments, we will nix the shuttle and walk around. Thanks for the tips!
