overthehillcruiser Posted March 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Just curious, as the ride holds up to thirteen guests, will it be done as an excursion, or you maybe need tickets like the ice shows. It seems with 4000 passengers it would be difficult for all to give it a try .. http://www.cntraveler.com/daily-traveler/2013/04/cruise-ship-news-royal-caribbean-north-star-attraction-quantum-of-the-seas-041613_slideshow_item0_1

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong though.

rlpresley3959 Posted March 12, 2014 #4 Share Posted March 12, 2014 That's part of the Big Reveal or maybe another press release :):) It's looking like we won't find out anything else until the first cruisers post info on CC. Wow, has been a big flop so far for me.
DEIx15x8 Posted March 12, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 12, 2014 (edited) They announced all of the details last year with the travel agent event shortly after the big reveal. The North Star rides are roughly 15 minutes in length (I believe it will be 15 minutes including turn around time). They will be first come first serve with no ride limit just like the Rising Tides bar on Oasis. It will be operated daily while in port or at sea reliant on conditions and regulations. There will also be 3 premium packages including solo rides and special sunset and sunrise packages that include champaign and other perks. RipCord on the other hand requires sign up and is limited to one time per cruise just like the Zipline on Oasis originally was. Each sign up session is done in groups and involves a training session where you learn the hand signals and how to do it. You then get 2 one minute rides; the first with assistance and the second on your own. Edited March 12, 2014 by DEIx15x8

I would think not everyone would want to do it, allowing time for extra sessions. It's not like everyone does the Flowrider - those kinds of activities just don't appeal to some cruisers (I definitely don't fall into that category!) Since I'm on the maiden voyage, I won't get to benefit from their learning curve!! I guess I'll trust they know what they're doing... Haha. nomarfan5 Posted March 13, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Disappointing about the RipCord but I'm hoping that by the time we go in April the policy will have changed. Of course I could go on it and freak out which would eliminate the desire to go on it again - like the rock climbing wall. :o
UNV-IT!!! Posted March 15, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 15, 2014 I'm sure that policy will change.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums I have done a ripcord like facility in Orlando about 15 years ago. It was pretty much the same thing. I think it was two 90 second sessions in the air tunnel. There were 10 of us in the group. I think it was like $29 per person back then (maybe more) To offer this on a cruise ship is a pretty premium attraction, for those who will do it I am still wondering about NorthStar though. I guess some people afraid of heights wont want to do it, but this rather tame that even those in scooters can do it. Then once you start taking away premium time slots, the throughput is pretty small. Are they expecting people to spend 3-4 hours in line (and away from the bars and casino) while they wait their turn? I am currently booked on the maiden voyage, so it will be interesting to see how this works.

I did the math for those 2/3 night sailings and only something like 450-500 guests per day so those sailings will only have capacity for about 15-20% of the guests on those sailings as long as the seas IN NOVEMBER are not too rough for it to operate.
