Few questions about upcoming Star Cruise.

1) When they let you board, how long till you can access your room? (How do you know when it's ready?)

2) What do you need cash for onboard other than tips?

3) What deck to do board/disembark from? (Star Princess)

4) Do you have to use the cup provided for the "all you can drink pop package"?

5) I've heard you have to make dinner reservations asap when you board... How?

6) Is there happy hour specials on board? (How do you find them?)

I've been reading lots of post but haven't come across answers to these yet...

Thanks!

I wish I could answer your questions, but it's been quite a few years since our cruise on the Star Princess.

I'll try to answer your second question. On board, I only used cash for tips. When we went ashore, I used cash for souvenirs, meals, etc.

May I suggest that you post all of your questions on the Princess Cruise board? This link will take you there http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=197

People there are great about answering questions.

Happy cruising!

1. You can go to your cabin as soon as you board.

2. You need cash for tips only - everything else is on the cruise card.

3. Usually you will be using Deck 5

4. There will be a sticker on your cruise card showing you have pre-paid drinks

5. Usually you can get dinner reservations for Sabatini's and the Crown Grill pretty easily and there's no rush.

6. The Happy Hour specials are for Platinum and Elite only BUT there is a special "Drink of the Day.

1)Usually you room will be ready before you are let on board.

2) The ONLY thing we ever need any cash for onboard is quarters for laundry.

3)Does it really matter? they will tell you where to go and it will change throughout the day depending on the dock and the tide.

4)I never use the cup they give me, what a pain to haul it around...

5)Dinner reservations for what? you already have your dinner seating.

6)Happy hour!!!! where??? they have drinks of the day and that is about it....

You can make reservations for the specialty restaurants, Sabatini's and Crown Grill, as soon as you board. For the MDR, if you are doing traditional dining, you will already know which sitting you have been allocated. If you have chosen Anytime Dining, you are under no obligation to make reservations for any of the days, but you can do so if you wish. The only time we bother is if we want a table for two at a specific time on a particular night. Then I just ring up and make a reservation in the morning. Otherwise, we just turn up. If you are prepared to share a table you will usually get seated straight away but if you want a table for two and they are busy, they will give you a pager and call you when a table is ready.

Thanks Donna & Jim.

Casino is cruise credit?

Is the drink special for the whole boat or different at each bar/lounge?

So we don't need the cup, just the sticker for the pop & more package?

In the casino (my home away from home) you can put cash in the machines or use your cruise card at the slot machine to charge against your room. This is a regular charge and not a cash advance. A casino worker will help you set it up on any slot machine-just ask. When you win (wink, wink) you can upload the amount to your cruise card and use it for the next casino visit or you can take the card to the cage and cash in. Sorry, I don't know how it works on the tables.

The drink special is ship wide. No, you don't need to carry the cup with you.

Often the head waiter will come to each table at dinner (at least in the main dining rooms) and ask if he can make reservations for the specialty restaurants for anybody. I think this was the case on every cruise we've been on, ever since these restaurants were started. Probably the exception is if you want to eat on a popular night such as Valentine's Day (or on some formal nights as some will decide to eat in Sabatinis, the Crown Grille, etc., so they can stick with smart casual wear).

We've never paid attention to this as we find the other dining venues enough for us, but we got a complimentary Sabatinis dinner on our last cruise and the head waiter said there was an available table the next night.
