Open sea Posted March 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted March 30, 2014 We will be traveling on the Celebrity Century and visiting Cairnes, Aus in December 2014. The ship snorkeling excursion is pricey but gives you time on the reef. The question is whether anyone has taken the ship excursion to the outer reef and was it worthwhile? A lot of people? Any advice is appreciated.
dancinman66 Posted March 30, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 30, 2014 It is worth while and you can book your own online also The reef is a long way out About 2 hours on high speed cat Greg Sent from my iPhone using Forums
coastlady99 Posted March 31, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 31, 2014 We have done an outer reef tour with p&o. Unfortunately the reef site was very over used and not impressive. We have been spoiled by previous reef trips on local tours. The difficulty is that the outer reef is a 9 hour round trip and unless you are in port for a full day you miss the departure and return times or at least cut it very fine with getting back on board. How long are you in Cairns? This will help with determining whether it is possible to take a local tour Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Open sea Posted March 31, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted March 31, 2014 Thanks for the info. We will be in Cairnes from 11am - 8 pm. We are seeing the same issue with findind a local excursion to fit the timing. That is why we are looking at the ship excursion. Problem is they take a large group. But is sounds good. Was just wondering if anyone has done a Celebrity excursion to the outer reef. $245 each and goes for 7 hours. We are also stopping at Airley Beach but sounds like longer yet to get to reef and not as good. Airley will be our stop right before Cairnes. dancinman66 Posted March 31, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 31, 2014 Arriving at that time you actually need to find the operator who is doing the ship tour That is your only option to not booking the ship tour Sent from my iPhone using Forums
