San Juan customs question

Recommended Posts

First, I did try a search--honest!--for what I'm sure is an age-old question. Have been to San Juan several times, but believe it or not, I can't recall if there is any customs and immigration to clear upon arrival from the US mainland. I'm thinking not. As for the return, I seem to think the customs thing takes place on the ship upon arrival in SJU, or does it happen at the airport? Thanks!

I think the immigration is done in the first US port on the cruise. If your last stop before San Juan is St Thomas, then immigration is done on the ship there. If not, then you are cleared before leaving the ship in San Juan. Customs is different than immigration. You do customs when you get off the ship. You should fill out your form before you disembark. The porters will take you and your bags through customs. If you have to pay duty, then it is done at this time -- before you leave the terminal.

Judy.
