cuti Posted April 11, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2014 We are on our last day on Oasis. Happy to answer any questions ;) But we are looking to book our spring break cruise for next year in the southern Caribbean (and we are liking the itineraries of Jewel of the Seas, Adventure of the Seas, and Celebrity Summit. All three for the April 4 or 5 have similar, but not matching ports and many places new to us. So we are wanting advice on which ship... You can see what we've done so far in my signature. We have been on AOS (different southern ports though). And we did like it. We have not done Radiance class before. I have been on the smaller Celebrity ships, but not with my kids (12 yr old town girls) or husband. Thoughts to help us decide? And do you think booking Onboard is best or should I wait and research more when I get back home? Thanks!
krev Posted April 11, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 11, 2014 I've only been on AOS from your list but also sailed on Serenade, same class as Jewel. I personally like Adventure, love the promenade. I find it very easy to find my way around, then again I'd be happy in a dingy in the Caribbean! Sent using the Cruise Critic forums app
golfer1966 Posted April 11, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 11, 2014 If you like all the bells and whistles and the promenade area....etc then your better of on the Adventurer, but if you like a smaller ship with more brass and glass shall we say ( but still awesome ship ) then do the Jewel or Serenade...whichever ship is there. A Pisces Posted April 11, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 11, 2014 I agree with the above post, the Adventure has more to do onboard the ship, but the Jewel is beautiful with lots of sea views in the public areas. Enjoy which ever ship you pick!
OhioCruiser3 Posted April 11, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 11, 2014 I just got off the Summit on Saturday and the Jewel the Saturday before. Both ships were great, but are the smaller ships. We really look for the intinerary first and then decide on the ships. Coming off of Oasis though you may want to go with Adventure-it is currenlty in dry dock and will have some new features for next spring's cruises. That's what we are looking at for next year! EuroDate20 Posted April 11, 2014 #7 Share Posted April 11, 2014 Here's a thought, book whatever you're leaning towards at this point while you're on board and get the OBC. Later on, if you decide you like another RCCL ship, you can transfer your booking and keep your OBC. Not sure if they would honor the transfer to a Celebrity ship though. Happy Cruising! Riff Sniff Posted April 11, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 11, 2014 We've never sailed on the Jewel, but we have done the southern Caribbean on both the Serenade and Brilliance and enjoyed both. Radiance class ships are beautiful - I especially love eating in the open air Windjammer at the back of the ship! If you decide to book the Jewel, I recommend an aft balcony cabin if there are any available. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Kat in CA Posted April 11, 2014 #9 Share Posted April 11, 2014 We too just got off a back to back: the Summit followed by the Jewel. Here is my opinion: For traveling without children: Summit Going with teens or kids: Jewel Classy but not stuffy atmosphere: Summit Like to dance to a live band? Jewel Foodies? Summit-especially if you can eat in Blu Love a good promenade deck? Jewel All over good service: Summit Shows-aeralists-dancers-comedians: Summit Cabin amenities/robes/toiletries/flat screen TV: Summit Free hard scooped ice cream with toppings: Summit Lively Centrum at night: Jewel Open air buffet dining at aft of ship: Jewel Easy embarkation or debarkation: BOTH Pool area grill with freshly made burgers: Summit Quality of buffet food: Summit Love lots of glass with sea views?: Jewel Less Crowded tables in MDR: Summit Go get your own pool towels: Jewel Pool and beach towels delivered to room: Summit Self serve drinks in Buffet: Summit Drink station in Buffet: Jewel Smoking in casino: Jewel Showing age: Both, to a certain extent Great ports: BOTH There. Did I leave anything out? We did not use the bars, casinos, spa- so I can't speak to those things.
cuti Posted April 11, 2014 Author #10 Share Posted April 11, 2014 Wow, thanks! Great summary. We have kids... They'll be 13 next spring break. They traveled last year with us on celebrity and loved the celebrity touches, like padded lounge chairs, cold cloths when you get on from a port, etc. But they also appreciate the rock wall and stuff... We like shows and comedy. We've eaten in blu and like it. Tough call. We too just got off a back to back: the Summit followed by the Jewel. We tried it last Fall for the first time and had fun eating there...we are not real "foodies" but up for adventure. cuti Posted April 17, 2014 Author #17 Share Posted April 17, 2014 So... if you go back to Giovannis at dinner, try the lamb chops - AMAZING! Izumi - I got the surf and turf sushi - it was unique. My husband got the hot rock thing. He loved it. My kids ate well too - my daughter had lobster there. And Chops was great as well - not quite as good as Capital Grille or other high end steak houses - but the filet was still quite good. I am not a fan of the dining room. My husband makes fun of me. Specialty dining are my big meals. The rest are my dieting :). Oh and Park Cafe - love the bagels with fresh lox for breakfast and the chopped salads at lunch. Needless to say, I rarely went to the buffet (only once) or MDR. My 12 year olds fav was Sorrentos Pizza. well we are eating at Giovannis, Chops, and Izumi too LOL. we have similar taste.
