herb Posted April 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2014 On all of our "ocean" cruises you gave them your credit card information and you were given a "sail & sign" card which was not only your room key but they also swiped the card each time you purchased anything on board whether in the shops, bars, etc. Even the gratuities were added and the total at the end of the cruise was then charged to the credit card on file. Is this a similar policy on river cruises? (We'll be sailing Viking)
jersey2 Posted April 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 12, 2014 If you purchase something on board ( gift shop...not much to buy...drinks in lounge, laundry, optional tours, etc.) you just sign and put your room number on the slip. No need to swipe your card. You settle up at the end of the cruise, either by credit card or cash. Suggested gratuities are just that...suggested. You decide how much you want to give. Poulsbo Cruisers Posted April 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 12, 2014 You can add the suggested gratuities for the staff to your shipboard account and they are charged to your credit card. However, the program managers, or equivalent, are independent contractors and you will need to give them their suggested gratuity in cash.

Regarding the program managers; on Viking, it is not necessary to pay their gratuity separately. You can pay all gratuities on a credit card or by cash in envelopes provided.
