cruise_junki Posted April 19, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 19, 2014 Does it matter if your wine has a cork or a screw on cap?
elliair Posted April 19, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 19, 2014 Definitely screw on. If you can smuggle the boxed wine, you can pour the smuggled into the empty screw on. Works great!
lrowe70 Posted April 19, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 19, 2014 It doesn't matter. You can bring on whatever your favorite bottle is.

deborahjo Posted April 19, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 19, 2014 We bring cork. We always bring a cork screw with us. No problem getting it on. If you do not want to carry a cork screw just ask your cabin steward. He will provide you with one.

One of my favorite reds is a Layer Cake Malbec and it's a screw top. Usually around $18. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
cruzincurt Posted April 20, 2014 #9 Share Posted April 20, 2014 You need to start using the $10 name for screw tops "Stelvin closures". More and more wines will be bottled with these.
dljones Posted April 20, 2014 #10 Share Posted April 20, 2014 I guess it really boils down to what you like to drink, cork or screw cap.
Sue Do-Over Posted April 20, 2014 #11 Share Posted April 20, 2014 If the OP is asking relative to the 'corking fee'... it doesn't matter which kind of bottle you bring into the MDR, you are charged for the 'service' of opening and pouring it. Even if you are perfectly capable of doing it yourself (although in the case of some champagne, better to let the professionals pull that cork and save an injury!) A cruise ship couldn't possibly stock all the varieties that we enjoy at the whole range of price points, which is why they allow pax to carry on their own favorites. But, since they missed the sale, they are making up some of the profits lost by charging a corking fee. Kind of like restaurants at home charging a sharing fee for entrees. crusinpsychRN Posted April 20, 2014 #12 Share Posted April 20, 2014 I grabbed a last minute cheap bottle of wine for $5 knowing at that price it'd be screw top. It wasn't!!!! I usually carry my own corkscrew but didn't that cruise... BTW, the cheap $5 wine was surprisingly really good!
