Lipari - By Land or By Sea

Our ship will be in Lipari for a day, and we are interested in seeing the island. For anyone who has been there, would we be better served renting a speed boat and seeing the island by sea, or renting scooters and experiencing the island by land?

Hi SteelerFan - What did you end up doing in Lipari? We are heading there next month and have found little info on this port.
