MTdreaming Posted April 27, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 27, 2014 For the young 20 somethings in our group , do they need their ID to purchase an alcoholic drink?
kruzerci Posted April 27, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 27, 2014 In December on Oasis we brought our 23 and 24 year olds and it was so odd how the ID thing worked. Half the time the bartenders didn't flinch since their Seapass cards were not hole punched, but half the time they would ask for ID. They both ended up just putting their ID in their pool bags just in case, but I thought it was really weird that with all the technology, they can't scan the card and see the age of the passenger. I'd carry a photo ID card. The bartenders may not have convenient access to a video display that shows the stored photo associated with the SeaPass card. They have been burned with people swapping cards in order to get drinks. Edited April 27, 2014 by clarea

BekkaW Posted April 27, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 27, 2014 (edited) I am in my mid-30s but I get asked for ID all the time in the US. Bars, casinos, even once at a Chili's. I find it funny because the drinking age here is 18 and I never get asked at home! Anyway, even with all this ID checking I have never been asked on board. YMMV Edited April 27, 2014 by BekkaW
Dave85 Posted April 28, 2014 #7 Share Posted April 28, 2014 I'm pretty sure the official policy is that they should have picture ID on them. As others have said, enforcement will vary. I'm in my late 20s and have been cruising for many years, and I can attest to the inconsistency of enforcement. Best practice IMHO is to just carry it around. Bartenders very much want to serve alcohol to all who are 21 and older and will often make efforts to verify age even if picture ID is not presented (I've seen bartenders actually call down to guest services to verify a guest's age), but who wants the hassle / waste of time on vacation.
