Sky616 Posted April 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 30, 2014 Approximately how many hours a day is the ice rink open for public skating? Is it only open days there is not an ice show? Never tried skating before but want to this cruise.
Mom.to.2 Posted April 30, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 30, 2014 It's only open on certain days, and you are correct that there's no public skating on ice show days. At least on the Explorer, the public skate times were structured into 45 minute sessions and the first 30 guests to sign up are allowed to skate during that session. Skating ran 10 am - 12:15 pm and 1 - 4:45 pm (multiple 45 minute sessions.)

You can sign the waiver online before the cruise or when you go to your first open skate. Bring thick socks. Gloves and long sleeves are nice but not necessary. You must wear a helmet so hair will be a mess afterwards. ;) Show days they are grooming the ice. The people running the open cessions are the ice show cast. You might meet one or two of them at your boat station during the drill. Check the name tags. RC singers and dancers also do life boat duty. Enjoy :)
