Best Sim Card

Are you talking about a sim card for your cell phone? How long will you be in South America? How many calls will you be making?

If you just need to stay connected and make an occasional, short call, it may make sense to just bite the bullet and pay the high international fees your cell phone company charges as long as they have service in the countries you will be visiting. If you are going to be talking longer and have a smart phone, open a skype account, find free wifi, and call from there. Cost is about $.05 minute with Skype.

If you buy something in Rio, for example, you will pay long distance charges in any other Brazilian city (except for those with the same carrier). (And you'll probably kill half a day purchasing.) So to then take the same chip to yet another country???? Fuhgeddaboudit.

I have an unlocked iphone and looking for a sim card where I can download emails and text message without being in a wifi zone. I will be in Rio, Iguazu falls, Buenos Aires Montevideo,

Santiago, Lima, and some ports in Argentina.

Here are two travel SIMs that might be worth trying if you have an unlocked phone or mifi device.

WorldTravelSIM is $24.95 with $20 starter airtime credit on ebay, costlier from its site (if you don't have an ebay account).

eKit comes with $10 bonus airtime. Sells for $24.49 on ebay or $39 from its site (if you don't have an ebay account).
